Today I was in a junk yard looking for some parts to buy/sell. I saw this old 50s model car. It said Super Royal on the quarter panels. I thought maybe a Buick. I raise the hood and to my suprise there is a Hemi. It was a Red Ram Hemi. I am by no means a Mopar guy so I came home and looked them up. 240 CID The first Chrysler Hemi from what I gather. Does anyone here know what it might be worth? There are a lot of smart guys here so I figured I'd ask here before I try some Mopar forum to dig deeper.

Dodge Red Ram. That is the baby Hemi. Smallest displacement of the early engines. A nice engine for a light street rod. Not as much demand for those as there is the Chrysler 392's, but still a good engine. The Desoto version is the one to stay away from, very little market support for it any more.

Yes, each early Hemi is different, and they don't share many parts between them. Most of the Chryslers went into fuel drag cars, so not as many of them left. The Dodge Red Ram, although small in cubes , can be built to some decent power levels. Market support is not as good as the Chrysler, but still way better than the Desoto.

What's it worth? Good question, what kind of condition is it in? Turn over freely? Look like all the freeze plugs are intact and no visible cracks in the block and heads? No way to know the cylinder condition without pulling the heads. I'd say, probably between $300-$800, and that depends on the condition and the buyer, how bad they want it. I would get the tranny with it. I think they have a unique bolt pattern on the block/bellhousing.

Nothing beats the WOW factor in a hood less street rod like a Hemi!:drive:
I'd love to have it for my 36 Dodge pickup.
