Why not set it up so that new members can not sell or buy untill they have reached a certain number of post in the forum? this way we get a feel for the new member and can look at prior post to see if this person is here for the love of the car, or has other motives.
this might be a way to put more confidence in trades and have people a little less worried about shooting money orders to strangers. i also think it might tighten up our forum so that would be bad guy's might stay away.
let me know what you think. good or bad idea?:tiphat:

Not a bad idea, frustrating for new members if they are looking to buy. Seller should see new user and make sure payment is good (paypal makes it too easy) I'm sure this site is found by people looking to find parts for their cars and if turned down on buying, may sorta leave a bad taste.

I agree on making sellers wait x-amount of time! Short time ago someone joined here and was only selling and jumping into everyones post with, I have one to sell. I sent him a PM, nicely, just saying welcome and introduce yourself and you may do better selling. Don't think he was on here but just couple days, seems like he is gone now.

My two cents worth,,, had to borrow half that!

And how many posts would you suggest before one is no longer considered a "new member"? Being a "seasoned" member on here has nothing to do with the number of posts someone makes. There are numerous people who have been on this site for years, yet only have a handful of posts. There have also been complaints on here about members selling things that have hundreds, if not thousands of posts...!

If you're going to buy something from someone on here, you do so at your own risk! I would suggest talking to them on the phone before you send anything! Even then, it's iffy at best...

Implying honesty, wisdom, technical expertise, or anything else, based on number of posts is not a very good way to do business. The know it alls and wannabes are often the ones posting the most...LOL

Case in point...I've been on here 8 years...you haven't been on here 8 months, and you have more posts...LMAO

Agreed it would be difficult to come up with a number of posts. One just has to watch out for ones self. I see quite a few classified ads from 1or2 post members. Doesnt necessarily mean they cant be trusted (member I had issue with was over 100 posts) but I will be a lot more selective who I buy from. I think I've been on here long enough now to have a pretty good idea who I would buy from.

I would like to add that even though I had to file a claim with Paypal to get my money back I'm not convinced he did it intentionally. Even Paypal couldnt reach him. Something may have happened to him. Who knows. Thats the only negative transaction I have had here or Ebay.
The other members I have bought items off have been great to deal with on this forum. Its great that we can help each other out with parts.

Some people simply join the forum to sell and are honest sellers. They may not contribute to the forum directly, however, they contribute none the less by helping members who are looking for parts/cars.

The following guidelines have been posted for buying/selling through the forums

    Classified Guidelines

    • Always exercise caution when dealing with others over the Internet. Trust your gut instinct and if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
    • Include as much detail (condition, color, mileage, modifications, maintenance info, etc) and pictures as possible. More info on posting pictures can be found here.
    • Before dealing with a member, take a look at their iTrader rating. This information can be found in their user profile (See below for more info).
    • Make sure that you have all the buyer’s/seller’s contact info (email, address, phone number) before sending anything to them.
    • Do not send cash in the mail, instead, use a secure online payment service like Paypal.
    • When shipping packages, always use a tracking number.
    • Once a transaction is over, please leave the member an iTrader feedback rating.
    • If a transaction has gone bad, contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center and your local police, as they are the only people that can help you out.

I think it's a good idea. All of the comments made are also valid points. Making them unable to sell untill 10 posts also allows them to post pics... I think. Not saying that makes it a safe person to trust, just shows he was willing to mingle a little. It is irritating to see someone come on JUST to sell. Makes me wonder why.

I totally understand wanting to avoid scammers but I think making a manditory post count would be a bad idea. A scammer would just post whatever was needed (like 10 posts) to get access to the classifieds. I myself had a deal go bad, and it was with a long time board member that got into financial trouble after being a good guy for many years. You just need to be careful.

Here is a great example of a new guy that found us just to sell a car he ended up with. I have worked with him a little to get a nice ad started and helped him to comply with board rules. He has a zero count but is doing everything correctly and has a few nice items for us.

In fact, I just bought a few things from him and he is going to deliver them to me on Friday when he has to pass through my town on his way back from Green Bay. A "win win" for both of us and it would not have been possible had he been shut out of classified use.

Being a complete newb here, on the EVO forum I am a member of, I wanna say they want like 50 posts in non-local or for sale threads before you can post something for sale. what ends up happening is in one night they post, "nice car" great wheels" "love the intake" type of comments to get thread count up.

I know this is not helping my cause much but thought I would share. on the S10 forum, I dunno what they do, nor on the Impala forum. The Comet got dropped on me so i figured what the heck, ya know. I was suprised to fing guys here honestly. LOL

My rides...there is an IROC around here too just not in thes epics. LOL

I think it is a GOOD thing they come here as newbys and try to sell. Maybe they just need to get rid of some stuff and they really don't want to have to "socialize" first. Maybe the town commissioners have given them 10 days to get rid of a car or face a huge fine. Maybe if they don't come here, the car to the recylcers and NOBODY gets any parts off of it.

Bottom line, whether you are buying something across the street or across the country: Buyer Beware.

Alot of reasons/maybes I hadn't thought of. I still become curious.

I guess we should be thankful we have the trader system in place. Something is better than nothing. I have used it to help me make a decision to buy or not. .. not that that is a guarantee.
Best quote on the net "Buyer Beware". :tiphat:

My 70 Grabber came from a guy with zero posts that found this forum from a google search on Mavericks. He is a Chevy guy and happened to save a Maverick from the crusher as he thought it would be a waste to scrap out a fairly solid car, even if it was a Ford .......... :p
