Dennis took the words right out of me mouth. Is that the track we will be running at John? I like the fact you roll through the water trough rather than backing up to it.Car looks really good John...You didn't put any elbow grease on it before you took it did ya?
Looks like it's gonna eat something. That car just looks mean! Still sorry about the damage. It was/is/will be again- A VERY BAD CAR!! Good Luck Preston
Rick, that is not the track. But the track we will be using as the same style water box....roll through it. Almost every track around here is that way, I think its a southern thing making you back-up to the box Yes definitely better before than after. Thanks Preston, come on up to the round-up next year and I will take you for a ride My 11 year old took those pics.(he did a good job of centering the car, I think) anyways, in the second pic, look real close and you can see I was looking at Adam.....I was waving too (just like a happy redneck ) but you cannot see my hand
same here, though driving through the bleachbox makes for faster running of all of the cars. Speaking of front tires.....I see you're running DS-2's. I bought a set of GY Frontrunners. Won't hold air (imagine that) and they vibrate a little at 120+ even though they've been balanced. How do you like the DS-2's? I've been looking for some new wheels, and I NEED new front tires anyway. Just wondered. I know my GYs are the brazilian made ones before they resumed making them here in the US, so perhaps the new GYs are better than the old ones?
I like the tires.....the car is real smooth in the front end on the big end. No wheel vibration at all. Roll-out #'s are real good on this tire as well. I will buy another set once these are done. and I agree.....there is flaws to either method.......race skinnies do not hold the water like a street tire does.....thats why around here they make the street tire guys drive around the box and back-up to it, keeping the front tires out of the box.
We have a backum up box too, have to agree with Jerry on the safety issue. May not affect us with skinnys but some of the street guys, seem to get just a little oversteer problems. Just the real power house cars are in this category, another thing I see too, is the guys who back in and then spin the tires at high rpm's out, out on the burnout pad. When done and staging the car, most have water dripping from the fender wells and then bitch about the crappy track conditions and lousy 60ft times. The regular street tire guys that go in the box are just wasting time and tire rubber, mostly just show off stuff for the sweetie etc. Actually makes the street tread slicker if you go overboard on the smokin up, nose choking, eye burning, John Force, burnouts. Oh well, to each his own.

Oh well, to each his own.[/QUOTE] I just wish I could do one of those John Force burnouts. I just fry one tire. (But it'll fry that one like nobodies business! They won't let us go around the water here. You have to go through it every time. It killed me when I went to the track, cause the tires are wet, then when you burn them to dry 'em, they get too hot and won't stick. Guess I just need stickies, but since I drive the car 100 mile to race it, that really isn't an option. Oh well........I got plans.
Preston, what you need is a pair of slicks in the trunk or a pit-crew vehicle to carry them. Those are great pics John, I need to have someone take pics of my car next time I get to the track. This is the last week for grudge racing here so it may not happen until next year.
Since I am new to running with slicks, is there any way to prevent this? What is the proper method for burn outs. Also, last year at the roundup I tried them but the track was poorly man, as in there seemed to be very little if any water to spin in every time I got up there. I couldnt get the slicks to hook up there at all. Another problem I had is the ass end wanted to go to the right big time, as soon as the burn out started. I assume this might be curable by playing with the caltracks.
Dennis when my car starts to walk out on me like that it usually means I'm not applying enough brake pressure. I've never had to do a burnout and work a clutch at the same time...I don't envy ya there bud. I powerbrake up to about 5800 rpms in first for about 4 seconds and then shift into 2nd for a few seconds to get the desired effect...I kinda overdid it in the video...but that was for the guys in the drag forum
