I am debating on whether I should just mount the lights to the stock panel, or buy a shelby panel and get the super sweet gas cap too...What do you all think? Im also looking at painting the bezels black...Opinions?

Visual mods are all in what you like...
So I can only say what I like.
    Both!
Ray did a beautiful job on his Shelby tail panel. It also blended the 71 Stang gas cap in perfectly. On the other hand, I could say that it added some bulk to the rear of his car and was SURELY time consuming to do, and maybe not within everyone's skill level. Not mine for sure!
I have stock tails and tail panel, but I used the same gas cap on mine and I have always liked it and got many compliments on it over the years. To me, it sticks off the tail panel just a bit, but no one seems to notice. I don't even notice unless I am looking for it. My car was yellow, so it was pretty obvious. I recently painted the tail panel and light bezels semi-flat black, like some Grabbers, and it really blends well now.
Too bad the car is engineless and I can't show off it's new rear!
It's something like getting lyposuction, yet you are in a wheelchair. ;)

    Anyway:
Do what you like and be sure you study and have patience if you go whole hog like Ray. The results can be amazing, but if you are like me, the trip there can be frustrating.
    Good luck
    Dave

Btw: I like the T-bird lights left bright, even on a black tail panel.

Thanks for the input. I talked to ray a little bit about the shelby tail panel, and I think its a little too in depth for me right now. I will probably cut the raised section out of the back panel and weld in flat sections like somebody else on here did(cant remember who). If I do get the courage to put a shelby panel on there, I can do it later. I may black the bezels out still. I havent made up my mind yet...
