Searching the archives brought up references to all three of these names under KYB. Apparently the GR2s are available at Autokrafters (fronts and rears), the Gas-a-Justs from PST (fronts and rears???), and the GSTs from Advance (fronts and rears???). Can anyone explain the difference between these 3 "models", or recommend one type over the other, or confirm which ones are available for all 4 corners of a Maverick? Once again, thanks for the input. John B.
KYB shocks, the only way to go. From: Chuck Gonwa <chuck@kyb.com> To: "'dtlcast@hotmail.com'" <dtlcast@hotmail.com> Subject: RE: K Y B TECHNICAL AND CONSUMER REPORT REQUEST Date: Thu, 2 Jan 2003 1332 -0600 > David, The Gas-A-Just shock for th rear of this model is long discontinued. It was #KG5525. We only offer the GR2 low pressure gas shock # 343136. You could use # KG5519 inverted if you put several 1/4" water drainholes in the dustcover metal cap and if the dustcover does not interfere with the lower shock mounting bracket. The Gas-A-Just, being a monotube, will operate upside down with no problem. KG5519 is about 1" longer extended, but thisshould be no problem either. our suspension has gas-a -just on front... g2 in back. we also went with new 4 leaf rear springs. they are kinda stiff and make up for the difference in the two shocks. the car rides sort of rough but you get used to anything. the handling improved DRAMATICALLY! hey chuck- how bout cutting this guy a break on shocks? i got mine from my distributor and got a great deal! i bet you could sell lots of kyb's to mav owners on this board that way! i have the gas a just on all four wheels on my karmann ghia and i wouldn't have it any other way.
I just got GR-2's for the front from Canadian Mustang. They are KYB part #343146, $65.15 CDN for the pair. They also carry the Gas-A-Just. The rear Mustang shocks are different from our cars, so I have to find them somewhere else.
