Yes, I am not hooked up yet. In fact, radiator and alternator are not hooked up yet... Waiting for some MORE parts. BUT...that being said. What would happen with my setup if I launched with the 150-shot going at the line, full throttle? Would the tires just spin, or would I just "maybe" get a little air under my front tires? 28X10.5 M/T ET Streets, caltracs, 3.80 gears, 330 hp with 150 shot. I just watched a couple nitroused cars on Erik-Mav's post, and got me thinking... Also, stiff front springs, and 4-leaf rear springs. It is a pretty stiff riding car.
Your car may not hook well with the stiff suspension. You need some drag shocks up front to give you some weight transfer. I would also remove the front sway bar. Just my You may not want to go to that much trouble if your car is mostly street.
Scooper, I have been gone from this forum for almost TWO MONTHS and you were talking about the juice install then. JUST DO IT ! ! ! Scott
the converter is one of the most important factors in how hard your car will launch. my cars converter stalls at 2500rpm. my motor doesnt start makeing power till around 3000 rpm. i tell you its a long 500rpms waiting for the power to come on. my nitrous turns on at 3000rpm and boy does it take off. there is no tire spin, i just goes. i run m/t drag radials, caltracs clones, and 90/10 drag shocks. the front springs are stock ones just cut to lower it. the rears are stock origanls. rear shocks are cheapo gabrial red riders! you dont want to have your nitrous come on much earlyer than 3000 rpm. im entertaining puting a 2600 pill in my rpm switch just so i dont have that long wait till it turns on. from my experience the converter will make the difference in weather you pull the front tires.
Cool! Thanks for the feedback. Sorry I haven't installed it all yet. I have a job and all that, but not a whole lot of extra money after paying the bills. And on top of that, we put our house on the market and sink all our extra cash into repairing all the stupid little things that have broken on and around the house over the past 10 years. Remember several years ago when my wife fell through the ceiling from the attic? That cost me $500 just yesterday...That could have been a new converter... At this point, I am just keeping the car running (sorta, it will be after parts come in to finish alternator swap). Cuz when the house sells, I gotta be able to drive it an hour to the next house or storage unit. New house will be MUCH closer to Houston Raceway Park 1/4 mile strip, and right down the street from an 1/8th strip, so I will be more motivated.
Launch my 64 pickup on the sauce with the converter loaded to 1500 rpm.Kinda goes like this,Burnout, flip toggle switches (fuel pump and nitrous arming) load up convertor a little last yellow stuff it to the carpet and pick the wheels up a couple inches. Oh and it has stock leaf springs and homemade slapper bars and weighs 4170 lbs with me in it. Yes you can launch it on spray!
Trying to sell my house, so got the alternator in the car and rewired, so it is running. I will do no more projects until I get the car moved to a new house. Gotta keep it running so I can drive to point B. Bottle is mounted, still need the plumbing. I was just thinking about it yesterday, but not the right time. Might be next season or this fall before I get a chance to get it all in and tested.
I've launched off the t-brake w/ as much as a 250 shot. As said earlier, the torque converter is crucial in a nitrous application (or any race application for that matter.)
