Leaking Windshield/Drivers Door Weather Strip

Hey guys,

I have water leaking at a pretty good rate from the drivers door/top corner of my windshield. Is it worth getting a new windshield weather strip ? Could I seal it with something instead? Here's a photo of the problem.

 

You might be able to seal it -- you can try. That wud be a temp fix at best. Removing the windscreen and replacing the rubber gasket is the best permanent fix.

 

and at that the leak may just move to another spot. I've had 4 windshields installed and all leaked...same story with a lot of others.

 

You definitely need a new weatherstrip.

 

If your headliner needs replacing it would be a good excuse to do both.

 

I've only had one replaced May 2014; guess I got lucky -- so far no leaks.

 

What would you recommend in regards to sealing?

 

I probably wud try some windshield sealer sold in all the auto stores. The way that gasket looks, at best, it will only be temp fix. That gasket is just plain dry rotted from weather/ultra violet exposure. If the car is not garaged, or under some sort of shelter -- you need to do it soon.

 

once the gasket cracks it will keep shrinking. that will keep the gap opening wider and wider.

 

I bought a new gasket and clips and I'm having a new windshield installed next week. The gasket that's in there is so dry rotted, it has several 1/4 inch gaps inside. I tried all sort of sealers and it just slowed down the gushing.

Noticed your post. Have you checked your ' cowl ' area for leaks also ? It's a common occurrence for these cars .

what clips did you get?

 

In the AutoKrafters catalog, it's the brown clips. However, there's two different size clips for the windshield trim. I went ahead and ordered 10 each of the other clips just to be on the safe side. They have 3 different sizes listed. 30 and 40 cents each.

 

The guy got the windshield out today and thank goodness there's only a little surface rust inside the frame in which he said he would remove all that. He got all the trim off and didn't damage any of it. I was worried about that. This man knows his stuff.

 

how many...windshield stands...did he find?
installing the glass ,it not leaking....installing the trim and not messing it up is the..."knows his stuff"...LOL
