OK, so a 1995 F150 comes in running very rough, we buy a long block and I happen to spot the core, which appears to be original, never opened, it's obviously a roller but can anyone tell from the pics exactly what and where it originates......one tech told me it's the H.O. but techs that just bolt on the intake and wire up a new long block I question just a little (no offense or discredit to the techs, it's just the way dealerships do it anymore). I didn't realize they came with double roller timing chains, course I'm learning alot...so what do we have gents?

looks to me to be a very crappy maintained 91 5.0, ur not thinking of buying that, you must be thinking of purchasing the replacement motor,,,,right,:hmmm:

    Lol

No, I don't have to buy it, I can get it for nothing. It was poorly maintained, however if all I'm looking for is a roller block then does it matter if it's poorly maintained? If that block was vatted and a first bore at 0.030 and since I'd be buying a stroker kit with complete new rotating assy it seems a no brainer.

However can anyone add to his identification, is it an H.O.?

well the price is right, my opinion is H.O, wont matter if you are doing a stroker,

Must have used Quaker State..yuck. Any casting numbers on the sides of the block, and any pictures of the lifter valley? I'd doubt it's a HO

Did the H.O. blocks not have "XXX" cast into the lifter valley?

    Are you sure?

Are you sure you want to see the lifter valley, it's not for the weak or persons with heart conditions, I mean it's very messy seen, I have never seen this much carnage EVER! AND it came in under it's own power RUNNING albeit with a slight knock.

OK I have warned you and the numbers I uploaded are all I have found.

All roller, and roller ready blocks had XXX. The only thing, that makes it a HO, would be the cam, and E7TE heads, as far as I know. Most trucks, came with E7TE heads, since they were truck heads. I'm sure someone knows more details.

It should have the HO firing order but it isn't technically an HO. I have the same engine out of a 94 Bronco.

    yep

OK well it's out of a truck and it has those heads (according to the tech), he did seem adamant about that because he talked about how those heads could actually have porting work that made them fairly decent flow heads and I know it's hard to see but it IS a roller. LOL

Pistons, and cam. If you are doing a rebuild, you'll be replacing those anyways. E7TE heads are nothing special, we've come a long way since 1987

Amazing how the old myth lives on, QS has been owned by SOPUS(Shell Oil Products) for several years and is no longer paraffin based... Oil must pass API tests to get the respective classification, no the old QS of the '70s wouldn't cut it...

That motor just never saw oil changes...

It's a roller block with roller cam but not a HO, trucks used a different grind to give lower power band, will be rated around 200Hp...

None, a roller block is a roller block...
