Finally got tired of lurking and decided I would introduce myself. My current project is a 1971 Maverick which came from Iowa so there's a bit of rust to be dealt with, currently has the original running 250/C4 combo, and beyond that it's a pretty normal Maverick. Any one have any suggestions as to where to start in the resurection proccess?
Welcome to the board, Maverik. Plenty of folk here to help you along the way. There's also a pretty nice search engine here to use. Good luck on your project!
Rust you say, I hate rust, hate i say. ok done being a goof. gretings and stuff, good luck on the rust (got pics of it?) I started with the intereor ('cus thats where i spend my time, and it was eaten by mice, reeked like em bad too). once i put that work in I said "i can't give up". "no maverick is pretty average, they're all unique" "like us"
welcome to the board. if it's running ok i'd say make sure the safety stuff like brakes and tires and shocks are in good shape. then i'd decide what way i want to go with it. then start gathering parts and your on your way.
Howdy and Where to start depends on the condition of your car and where the worst rust is. In my opinion, Brakes should always be the first thing you restore. Then steering and suspension. Then drive train. Then body. And lastly, the interior.
welcome to our world, first things first, brakes, very important, you can run like a scalded ape but if you can't stop...well everything else doesn't really matter. lots of good people here to help you on your way.... parts to be found, and ???? answered. Check out the MCCI and again welcome...Jim
to the board. I agree with all the above. It's a little at a time. Mine has been an on going project for 5 years now. Still have a ways to go. Lots of good info here....Pics, we love pics...
Welcome to the board. Where you start depends on what you are willing to do and whether or not you want a 'work in progress' or a total restoration. If you want to drive it while you work on it, then the other guys are right, brakes and drivetrain first. If you want a 'show car' restoration and won't need it as a daily or even random driver, strip everything off of it and start with the body and paint work first. This way you are not getting sanding dust, primer and paint all over fresh components. I would put seats and carpet in last, after reinstalling new or freshly rebuilt and painted suspension parts and the motor/tranny/rearend. Good luck, there is a great group of people here as you may have learned 'lurking' around. Seth in NC
