This is the first picture ever on the internet of my car with a hood on it.

This hood was on a `72 Grabber back in about 1975 .The owner worked at the local Ford dealership , and when he installed a tunnel ram on his car ,he ordered the hood New from ford...took it out of the box...and cut a hole in it! The hood still has the original factory black primer on it and has never been painted. Now it has surface rust on it along with a few small dents.

I`d like some opinions about what I should do ...

    1) Paint it semi flat black and run it like that.

    2) Paint it the same color as the car ,and TRY to get the paint to match my factory 1972 paint job ?

Didn't the 72 mavericks have the snorkels?? If so, I don't think that hood is an original grabber hood. Even so, it works perfect with your setup, looks great!

I did`nt say it was a grabber hood. My factory hood IS a grabber hood ,which I wont be cutting a hole in. This hood is a stock replacement flat hood.

I think car and hood should be the same color. However, I like things to be a little different; a flat black hood would be okay by me as well.

The statement you made that it was on a grabber in 75 would have led to the belief that it would have been the original hood.

No biggie. I vote for body colored paint.

UM no...I said it was on a `72 grabber...back in about `75. When the owner of the `72 decided to install a tunnel ram on the car (in 1975 ) he ORDERED A new hood ...and cut it....then he installed it onto the 1972 Grabber.

to paint or not to paint

Paint the hood green, then paint the raised section of hood flat black. Would look sharp

Either way! It's a win/win situation, in my opinion. I'm partial to the monochromatic look, so I would probably go green myself, but the black would look tough too. Just a thought; what about a Grabber style panel on the raised portin of the hood, complete with the large "pin" stripe around it, in the same light green as your stripes? I think that might look pretty cool. John B.

Either would be fine - I've got a (maybe 'the last', according to seller)
Harwood fiberglass hood. I'll be painting it flat black myself and running it.

I'm pretty sure it'd cost a bundle to get the right aftermarket shade
and stripes to match the rest of my car.

I still have the matching original HEAVY steel hood (with a
huge box snorkel scoop) but it's simply WAY TOO HEAVY.

BTW, I was wondering if you even HAD a hood for it. :D
What you have now is much improved!

I'm with John B. ..... make it look factory...with the proper amount of rubbing and bufffing you can match it easy enough:clap:

    Since I've been inspired ;)
I would have to add my vote in
    to this one...

    Paint It!

When you mix a black hood with that
Grabber Green Stipe, i think you'll see
a bad contrast with all the colors.

If you painted it green to match the car,
you could paint a lighter green stripe up
the center of the hood to go with your
Grabber Stripe... I REALLY think that would
look great with the Grabber Stripe.

Your motor is the "Center Point" of the hood
With the light green stripe on the hood,
it's not going to be a Bold look and stand out.
But, it would be a nice high light to your Grabber
    Stripe.

I think either stripe would work...
