OK guys ... There are numerous sources for alterators, with prices that are all over the place. As usual, ebay has the lowest prices I can find. Sooooo, has anybody had personal experience with one of these from either of these 2 ebay sellers?

If you have, and have a "review" to share, I would be interested.

Also, if anybody has found a good alternate source, that info would be appreciated.

I have the one in your second link. It works well, had to modify the lower alternator bracket to clear the larger housing. I have been debating about converting it back to a 3-wire, though. When there's a heavy electrical load (my Taurus fan and 6 bulb brake lights while idling) the voltage dips some, restoring the sense circuit would probably take care of that. It depends on your setup whether you would even see a voltage drop.

I was just reading an article last night about the disadvantages of a 1 wire setup. I may need to rethink the 1 wire setup.

Were you reading it from a company that sells 3-wire setups for a GM Delco? If so, they are in business selling products and you are reading advertising.

Yeah, I bet it was the MAD article. My situation is a little different than most, the 1-wire worked fine until I added a fan that draws 40 amps.

I know they were selling something (who isn't?). I said I MAY need to rethink because some of it did make sense. And bmcdaniel says his situation is a little different, but a lot of folks are going with electric fans, and elecric fuel pumps, and electric water pumps in some cases and I want to make sure whatever I do is right ... the first time.

I will be running an electric fan, and relocating the battery to the trunk. Not decided on fuel pump yet, and not likely to ever run electric water pump.

If you can debunk the proclaimed disadvantages of the 1-wie solution, I'm all ears ...or is that all eyes :D

I am running 2 electric fans, electric water pump, 720 watt amp, and battery is in trunk but I still have a mechanical fuel pump. I leave my water pump and fans runnind up to 5 minutes after I shut down the engine to finish cooling the engine and my battery is always fully charged. All this with a 1-wire alternator.

Yeah, I made a controller out of parts I had laying around, a couple circuit breakers, relays, temp sensor, etc. There's a tech article about Taurus fans where I added pictures of what I built.

Ultima 130A 3G alternator $155 at Napa. I think it was new, not remanufactured.

I installed on a stock mustang serpentine system and had to grind away a little of it to make it fit.

I am running a new 1 wire 130amp altenator I purchased from Quality Power Yucaipa, CA., $150.00 shipped. I got it 7 months ago. It is standard belt unit. It was a bolt on - no mods necessary. I have Flex-a- Lite elec fan that I believe draws abt 21amps on startup, a 300w stero amp and plan on hooking up AC nx season. I don't have elec fuel or water pump.
I like the unit; I like the elimination of the regulator and assoc. wiring.
I don't know what the negatives are suppose to be cuz I have not read the mentioned article.
Whatever they are suppose to be I don't plan on going back to the old style setup. I have one wire going to the battery side of the solenoid and thats it. I like it. :drive:
