I just joined the forum today. I bought a 1972 Grabber 302 and want to replace the entire AC system. I've found many of the parts on-line. I may regret trying to replace everything with OEM parts, rather than a kit...but I'm more than half pregnant, so I'm pushing through. I found my York compressor w/clutch, condenser, drier, expansion, heater core, but I can't seem to find a new evaporator core anywhere. Any suggestions on where to find one ? I could try to flush the existing evaporator, but I hate to use any of the old parts as I'm replacing everything new. The car has factory air, but hasn't been used in 20 years. Any advice on where to find an evaporator would be greatly appreciated.

Classic Auto Air can build you a new one. You will have to send them your original to use as a pattern. Depending on what year AC box you have acquired, the evaporator is either all copper or all aluminum. Contact Classic Auto Air in Florida, ask to speak with Ron.

Thanks....I'm having a mechanic do all the work...I was just buying the parts. But appears I'm going to have to get the existing evaporator out of there, before we can start any work. thanks again.

Personally I wouldn't replace it, a competent radiator shop can flush it, check it for leaks and repair any leaks found... JMO

I just finished putting factor air in a Maverick that didn't come with AC. I let the local radiator shop clean the old heater core and evaporator. My thinking was they don't make parts like they use to. Maybe the old stuff is built better than the new.

I had the radiator shop check my evap. on my repair/upgrade on my sys., but did install a new heater core. If u have a mechanic doing the work, U will need to inspect the heater box for cracks and/or damage. If ur lucky, there will be none. If not, U will need to repair any cracks/damage to keep water frm leaking in the car floor. Hoe u get it working - Im glad I did the work necessary to get it back in service.

Thanks Mojo...I have a new heater core....but can't locate an evaporator. I'll have both checked out by a radiator shop, and then I'll know what I'm dealing with before I begin the balance of the a/c system.

I've had 2 new heater cores leak right out of the box...I now have them tested before install.
    2 questions.

    (1) why the York compressor? there are better choices.
    (2) how can you be..."half pregnant"...I thought that's an is or ain't thing...:D
