Hello, all. I'm new here. Have a 74 Maverick that I purchased 'bout 3 years ago. Needs body work. I know little about cars and have two left thumbs. My lovely car was parked in the street one rainy night and got rear-ended (hit & run). By looking at the pics, can anyone help me make some assessments/offer guidance on getting repair done? What type of parts will I need? I'm in northern NJ and don't know who to turn to or what I may need. I also have no collision/comprehensive on the car. It is parked under a tarp in my driveway. Welcome to the board. Sorry about your car. From what I can tell you can probably find most of the parts on this board. The qtr panel will be your hardest item and most expensive. Now the bad news. It is going to be costly at a bodyshop. I do recommend using a qualified bodyshop, your damage is extensive and you might as well pay good money to fix it correctly once. While I have not worked in a bodyshop for years, I have done work like that recently, I would bid $2500.00 which would include parts to repair your car. However, I am not bidding to do the work, just giving you an idea of what to expect, if not higher. Dan ps parts you will need, Left Quarter panel, tailight panel, Left rear Qtr extension, rear bumper filler, Left rear bumper filler extension. rear bumper. The trunk floor can probably be straightened. Cant tell by the pic, but maybe a left tailight as well. Also, the deck lid does not look damaged in the pics, but it could be bent.
guidence By your picture you would need a new left rear 1/4 panel and the rear tail light assmebly, and the rear( think its called basel)? not sure, but the whole piece from the left side of the car to the right. Now these would have to cut out of your car with an air metal ripper or torch. and the same with where ever to get the parts. then they have to be welded back in place, bonded, and finished to repainting. Its alot of work, you might want to check some of your body shops in the area just to get a price. Dave

Thank you for some guidance Dan, thank you for the welcome and most of all thank you for taking the time to make some form of assessment. You are correct about the deck lid ... not touched. I am extremely lucky. I neglected to mention that when I purchased the car I immediately ordered a left and right quarter panel because there is some rusting through. My intension was to replace both sides when I had some extra cash. I also have a RIGHT extension (why couldn't they have hit THAT side? ). The chrome rear bumper was untouched. Taillight is not broken and still works. Much thanks to the other posters, too. I'm eager to read any further advice from you or another owner. I wish I was handy or rich. How can I pass up a recommendation like that? First off, welcome to the board. I only wish it was under better circumstances. So sorry to see your Maverick damaged like that. It looks like a real clean car. It is repairable, but as others have said, it's not cheap to do. Dan has pretty much nailed it with the list of parts you will need. The only thing I see missing form the list is possibly the wheel opening molding and the rear parking light assembly. The tail light panel you should be able to find on a doner car. You are indeed lucky to already have the replacement quarter panel. Without seeing into the trunk, I'm guessing that the inner quarter and trunk floor may be pushed in as well. It's hard to tell without actually looking at the car. So then, the left quarter and rear tail light panel would need to be cut out and replaced. Before cutting off the quarter, the upper most part of the quarter would need to be straightened so the new quarter can be fitted. The trunk floor ( if damaged) can be straightened while the quarter is off. A rough guesstimate to repair the car would be around $2500 just for the parts and labor. Spot painting the car is not included in that guesstimate.
welcome to the board, not alot I can add but to agree with the others, nice car you have, I hate to see it like that, same thing happened to my 73 few years ago, but on right side and back. the car or me were never the same.One thing I can add, try to park in the driveway next time.people do weird stuff on the street, you never know if they are high, drunk or just stupid....best of luck...Jim
