Hello folks, my name is Kevin. I have been writing a couple of Ford VIN decoders for the last few years and they have merged into a single program that at the moment does most of the world except the US made vehicles. I have a few holes in information about South American and Mexican Fords. I have had a look around the site and found a little about what I am looking for but not the whole picture, yet. If it pleases you, look at the screen shots and try out the program, or if you have information that will complete the BIG picture for everyone, please let me know and I will put the info in the program. http://www.vk3ukf.com/vk3ukf_files/Ford/Ford.htm The program is for the XP platform. I have previously released a Mexican only VIN date decoder, in their version of Spanish. I just found some info on this forum I did not know before, the Mexican Maverick is body type code 91. I need info like that. I also need to put that into my program, but will ask around a bit first, more may turn up. If the current World Classic VIN decoder should be in your language, I will need a bit of help. The bulk of information in the program relates to the Classic period 1965-1982, it will still decode dates right up to 2010, and a lot of modern codes as well. Thanks folks, Kevin.
Why are you not including the American made cars in your program? Will you have a separate program for the USA cars?
Hi Paul, the reason I left the US alone, is that their coding system is somewhat different from that used by the rest of the world in the period 1965-1982. It does require a completly different code module, or a serarate program. From what I could gather, there are already a ton of decoders around specifically designed for US manufactured cars. I didn't want to re-invent the wheel for the 5th time or something. There were so many requests for Australian classic muscle car VIN info and it was lacking. The program expanded to the other continents because everyone else in the world uses a similar VIN system as Australia. The US is sort of, a one of place to find their coding system. The knock down export kits from the US are another matter, they end up with the VIN code of the country the vehicle was assembled in. Is the answer OK and complete?
