I have 2 master cylinders, They are both from manual break set-ups. One has the rod permanently stuck in the master cylinder. The other one's rod easily pulls out of its hole.

I know that there is a little retainer clip on the rod of the one that I cannot get out. The other one had no clip, just a recess but no clip.
The Question is this, How do I get the rod unstuck? There is no way that I can see to dissasemble this master cylinder, the other one has a spring clip that can be removed with those special pliers that have the little pins to grip the clip and remove it. The one that is stuck has a spring retainer, but it has no holes for the plier type spring removal tool to grab!

Whats the secret to getting the rod out?

    Thanks, Mark B

Well Mark, seeing as how you got no other answers at this point, i'll give it a whirl....all the Ford master cylinders that i've seen (and i haven't seen them all, but quite a few since i work at a parts store), have a special clip on them that...well, pretty much when you push the rod into the M/C it gets stuck there, and the way i've always gotten them out is to just pull really hard! On my Maverick at least ('70) it's just a spring clip that holds it in. Hope yours is the same, otherwise, good luck!

YOU DIDN'T SAY IF YOU JUST WANTED TO KNOW HOW IT WORKS OR IF YOU ARE WANTING TO DO A REBUILD. MY DEALINGS WITH REBUILDING ONE IS THE TIME AND TOOLS VERSES THE LOW COST OF BUYING ONE ALREADY REBUILT. IF YOU BUY ONE, TAKE THE OLD ONE WITH YOU. GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME TO GA... FRANK...

I really just need to get the rod out.

I have hamered and pried till I was blue!

Really seems stuck in there permanently!

Do you allways get a new rod with a new M/C?

    Thanks for the replies! Mark

I got a new rod with mine, i got it at Autozone for about $15 as i recall. For the price, i don't even think it's worth rebuilding...
