I guess i watch to many tv auctions. (matching #s) Is there such a thing with our mavs. Or did thay just put what ever motor and trans in that thay had on the line?
Well, we don't have quite the GM standard of documentation, but ............... you will find the VIN stamped into both inner fender, top side about where the shock towers are ( fenders must be removed to see it ) - most, but not all, engines and transmissions have either a full VIN or partial.
As Eric stated...the VIN or partial VIN is stamped in all those locations. A partial VIN is stamped on top of the transmission. A partial VIN can also be found stamped in the back of the block of a 302 right behind the intake manifold. Another way to check "numbers matching" is to check out the date/shift codes stamped into the fenders, hood, trunk lid, and other body panels. It is a way to verify if the body panels are original or have been changed. Body panels would be stamped with a date code BEFORE the build date of the car. If the date code is AFTER the build date, or not stamped at all...it is possible the body panel with that date code stamped/missing is not original. One can also check out body buck tags, build sheets, and data stickers to verify equipment, date codes, etc. Not all that important to a Maverick...but interesting.
