Thanks to Ryan and Maverick Matt for the info to get these pictures included in this post. This car is powered by a 300 + cu/in truck engine with Weber carbs and a magneto. This car runs 11.6 sec. quarter mile times. That equates to well over 350 hp.. Thought everyone would like to see the engine and the wheel bars.
Do it the easy way. email the pic to me and I'll make sure it posts. I still don't trust the whole link directly from the hard drive when making a post. I'll put it on the net and link to it.
Found that Netscape 6.2 has a bug that doesnot support e-mail attachment at this time. This post was made through Internet Explorer.
The "YOUNG" gentleman working on the carb jetting is the owner driver. In our short meeting (95* temps), he said to me "what ta hell am I doing here, should be home in front of the air conditioner with a case of beer"! The full car photo shows my son talking to him.
And thanks to Stefan for adding the photos for all to enjoy. Sometimes I think of doing a six powered Mav for the fun. I know where there is a car setting for the asking. These engines should be cheap as they used them up into the late 80s with fuel injection in the trucks. They are one tough engine.
Ken, Guy I know that's a crane operator told me once that hydraulic cranes and other construction equipment used the Ford 300 6cyl to power the hyd. pumps. He said they would warm them up in the morning before starting work. Run them 2800-3000 rpm till lunch, then idle 'em down. After lunch back up to operating speed till quiting time. Idle down for 5-10 minutes and do it again the next day. He did tell me how many hours between overhaul/ replacement but I don't remember that. I had '78, '84 and '92 F-150s all with the 300 and loved 'em. Oil, filter, lube every 3K and cap/rotor/plugs every 50K. Kinda wish I had my '84 again. jacka
I hadn't paid attention to when they discontinued them . The last I saw one was in a neighbor's 87 pu. Can remember that Ford retrofitted them to FI and had some sort of fan to cool one or more of the injectors. Notice in the engine photo that the radiator is in the stock location but as I remember, no fan was used. How about them Weber carbs!!
I was wondering if you might take notice. No really I don't except to say I think I remember a very lite accent in the mans words. As you can see by the adv. on the car he was from somewhere up the Hudson river area north of NYC.
A friend of mine has a pretty late 90's F-150 with the 300 in it. Seems like they used them up until they started making the new body style with the shorter hood. I'm thinking his is a 96 or so, but I'm not positive.
