Anyone ever thought of making a mav 2dr into a hatch? The lines look natual for one.I do not have the talent or equipment to do one,but always thought i'd be neat.Has it already been done,or does this idea just vaccum(PC for suck)?

Air Ride Technologies did a Hatchback conversion on a 69-70 Mustang fast back several years ago that turned out neat.

Personally, I hate hatch backs. Even when well made, they look so cheap to me. Its like they took the easy way out to complete the car.

It would take an enormous amount of work to increase the structural integrity lost by creating a hatchback. I agree, the cars have the lines to make it a natural. I hate hatchbacks,, my stang gt is a hatchback, I hate it.

Hatchback cars are notoriously weak, even when engineered from the factory.
They rattle, they are noisy, and the body twists easier than a sedan type car unibody.

Neat idea, if you have the money, anything is possible.
    IMO, not worth it.

I personally like hatches. I guess thats from me being young. I just like the way they look and when you put audio stuff in sounds so good :-D I would do it to my mav just to have the only one like it even if i didn't like the hatch. If ya find plans on how to conv. let me know :)~

Roll cage would stiffen it up enough. Everybody needs a roll cage eventually right? :D
Next step would be to frame up the whole section that wil raise up and figure out some internal hinges so it dousn't look hideous. I think this is a great idea myself. It would be a lot of work.

Hybrid the Mav deck lid and rear glass with a hatch from an H-body (Monza)... it is about the equivalent size.

I agree that sub connectors and cage would be required.

I wouldn't mind giving it a try. Of course i wouldn't be doing the work but Elliot would. I Wouldn't be to much to get junkyard mav with decent back and just see how it works out and if it doesn't then no big deal didn't waste to much or mess anything up. but if it does work.. just cut it off and weld it onto mine. Does anyone have or know where i can get info on doing this? I trying to find stangs and other sites that put hatches on their car i know someone has done it before.

Also how much HP/torq would be needed for a cage if it had hatch?

When your front end sags down to the right and your rear end sags to the left!
Well, I guess if it twists that much, you are a little late with chassis stiffening...
