    hello,
what year model maverick rearends were the same as the 72 maverick?

got a little pinto rearend swap project going on. had someone tell us that he put a 72 rearend under his pinto no problem. we don't have a 72 model, but have several other models. (y)

Pinto is different lug bolt pattern.

what we're doing is a 5 bolt lug conversion. there are aftermarket rotors that can be used to convert the front, but the rearend has to be changed to go to 5 lug. we have a sizable salvage yard with a few mavericks; as stated, someone told us he put a 72 maverick rearend under his. we don't have a 72, but have some others so i need to know what years are the same as the 72.

    thanks

all the mavericks have the same type rear end 8" with the same width, some of the small 6's have a 7.5 I think that is what you are asking for. You have a pinto and you are swaping to five lug?

    a 72 6cyl maverick will have a 4 lug 8'' rear, v8's have 5 lug 8''s

I know the Mav rear is a direct swap to a Stang 2, so if the Pinto rear is identical, which it probably is, then you're good to go with any 5 lug Maverick rear.

Just stay away from '70 Mavericks. '71-'72 6 cylinder cars were 4 lug (4 x 4.5). '71-'72 V8 cars were 5 lug (5 x 4.5 pattern), but the "hub" in the center of the axle was a little smaller from what I have seen. All Mavericks from '73 and up were 5 lug regardless of engine, and the "hub" in the center of the rear axle is a little larger. Mavericks came with two gear ratio's, 2.79:1, and 3.00:1. The easiest way to tell which gear you are getting is to look at the tag inside the drivers side door. Under the "Axle" code, a 3 means 2.79:1, and a 6 means 3.00:1.

    Jamie,
Not all the 73s had 5 lug. I have one with 4 lug wheels and a 250 six.
I think Ford uses what ever parts they had left over. I do know there is an early and late 73 so maybe the one I have is an early 73... I haven't checked.

Hmm... I have never heard of nor seen a 4 lug '73. I have an early and late '73, both 250 cars, both are 5 lug. Sounds like we need Mr. Craig Selvey to chime in.
