This morning I tried to start my car and all I heard was this buzzing electrical sound coming from under the hood. A neighbor of mine said it could be the starter solenoid, so I replaced it and I got the same results. What could be wrong?
Low battery, or maybe you got another bad solenoid. I've seen that happen before. Loose ground also does it, and/or a bad starter.
1. fresh battery. 2. fresh solenoid (2 were purchased and installed). 3. fresh battery cables and good clean ground.
Take your starter out and have it tested and/or replaced. The one on my mustang acted up when the motor was in the Comet. I took it to have it tested and it tested fine... came back home, put it in and same crap. Ended up getting it warrantied. The same thing happened on the same motor in the mustang, and I just had it warrantied before I even had it tested. Both times it fixed the problem
What is the battery voltage while you try to crank the engine? (it has to be above 9 volts) If you hear it click and then the buzzing sound, you could have a shunt switch (in the starter) out of adjustment. It is not a hard fix but does require the removal of the starter and the brush cover (to get the pole cap off).
