4 th Annual MCG National Gathering
July 15-18, 2010 in Joplin, MO
The Maverick Comet Group will be returning to Joplin, MO for the 4th Annual MCG National Gathering. We are looking forward
    again to seeing everyone.
    Host hotel
    La Quinta Inn Joplin
    3320 S Rangeline Rd
    Joplin, MO 64804 View map
    Phone: 417-781-0500
Rate*: $70/night, includes deluxe continental breakfast. Check-in time: 3 pm, check-out time: 12 pm.
*mention the Maverick Comet Group when making reservation. Our block of rooms will be held until 30 days prior to the event.
If you don't make your reservation before then, you may not get a room anywhere in town!
When you check in, make sure you mention you are with the MCG and ask for your information packet. We are putting together a packet of information including the event schedule, maps for cruise routes and a list of things in the area you might choose to check out during your free time or if you are arriving early. Last year, the north parking lot had plenty of trailer parking and was well lit and close to the outdoor pool area.
    Event Schedule
    Wednesday July 14th

Early arrival. Neosho fish hatchery tour. And Candy house tour. We will also be having a BBQ Cookout in the evening at Jeff and Misty Phillips house in Joplin.

    Thursday
Thursday will be a tour of the Four State Truck Shop. I believe this is where the Chrome shop mafia is located. Lunch on your own. Then a guided tour of the Audubon / Wildcat Glades, at 1 pm.

Drag nite - The 4th annual MCG Bracket Nationals and unlimited test and tune at MO-KAN Dragway from 6-9 pm. We will leave the hotel shortly before 5 pm so we have plenty of time to unload and get ready for racing. Whether you have a stock six banger or a monster V8, you will have a blast. You don't have to be fast to have fun. You don't have to be the fastest car to win. This is a fixed-cost event for the club. The more people that participate, the lower the cost will be for everyone.
    Friday
We will be going to Red Oak ll. http://www.legendsofamerica.com/mo-redoakii.html . Afternoon we will be at the Carousel Park. This is a local amusement park. Jeff and Misty are trying to work a discount fee for us. Friday evening will be our (no host) group dinner at Ryan's family steakhouse buffet. This restaurant has just about everything you could imagine. And finally our annual meeting at the hotel. Exact time TBD.
    Saturday
Show and shine (judged and non-judged), cookout, kids games and activities at Landreth Park. We will be at the south shelter again. There are also lots of shade trees near the show area.

Saturday evening those that want to participate will cruise together to a popular local cruise-in near the hotel.
    Nightly
Hanging out with your fellow MCG members in the hotel parking lot swapping stories, bench racing, checking out the cars.

I for one will be glad to see the 4 of you :tiphat:.
I hope my son will come with us this year. He has no idea what he misses by not coming along. Of course, he says I have no idea what he would miss if he did .

5 of you then? Sorry, I don't recall meeting your son there (alot to absorb). All I remember is Blue, Red, Jack and Jon...
My son went to Waco once with me and he actualy won something :1st:. He bragged and boasted how much he liked it for a week... that's how long THAT lasted. The next year he said it was boring and hot so he didn't want to go o_O.

Frank, my wife and I did the same thing :yup:.

I am hoping to find a White Castle on the way...:drive:

Speaking of the room rate, that is still the best deal I have ever run across. I have paid nearly twice that for comparable rooms. With that enormous free breakfast spread, I don't know how they can do it.

Bad thing about that breakfast is that I always gain weight at the Gathering.Let's see BBQ Wednesday night, Ryan's steakhouse Friday night, Cookout Saturday, Breakfasts everyday. :D
