I'm about to do my first fuel pump install. Its a one for one mechanical fuel pump replacement. Is the job as easy as it seems. 2 Bolts, slip the old one out, slide in the new one and bolt on.

Are there any steps or tricks I'm missing and need to know since I've never done this before.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it a 302? If so, make sure you clean the gasket surface on the block (or you'll have an oil leak), and I like to use a thin coating of gasket cement, and stick the new gasket to the new fuel pump. Just snug the bolts up, don't reef the heck out of them, you don't want to break one.

The engine is 302. Do I have to worry about lining up the rod with the cam lobe. Or will it slip into the proper place on its own.

Might have to bump the engine over IF the arm wants to bottom out too soon to get both bolts started.

I didn't know about turning the motor over when I replaced my pump a couple of years ago. It was a real pain to over come the spring pressure. If I had just turned the engine over... Next time I will know that.
