I have seen 2-3 ways to wire the...mini starter... #1...starter cable stays hot all the time... #2...get a slight run on when car starts... anyone have a digram to the best way to wire it? i went through 20 pages on a...starter search... thanks...:Handshake ...Frank...
Mine is wired using the typical Ford solenoid setup. There's also a solenoid terminal on the starter, but I just jumped that to the one big wire I've got going to it. Simple, works great!
I looked at the kit from Ford Racing, and it comes with 2 wires, one to run to the hot side of the battery, and the other to the switched side of the solenoid, Just like Scoopers write up in the tech section. http://www.fordracingparts.com/download/instructionsheets/FordInstShtM-11000-A50A75B50B75.pdf
Frank, I wasnt sure how to wire a mini-starter, I ran out and bought a Protorque 82055 in hopes that it would come with a diagram. Well it came today and sure enough so did the diagram! What kind of starter did you get? If this doent help, I will buy the same one you have so I can post the diagram. :Handshake ~~Brian
I haven't noticed anything like that, no. But maybe it happens that with with some others? Or maybe, for once, I'm just lucky...
Question? Why not run the big hot to the Ford solenoid in the normal fashion, and then connect the two small activation wires on the solenoids together, that way, both solenoids would activate at the same time, the one on the fender suppling power to the starter, and the one on the starter engageing the starter drive. My 99 F150 is wired simular to this, because it takes a firewall solenoid as well as a starter mounted one....
ive experienced the run on thing when useing the stock ford starter that came on 93 and newer fords. its a light weight high torque one that you can find in the bone yards. i suspect that the aftermaret starters dont have that same problem.
I read over the Ford Racing starter instructions, and looked at scoopers tech article. I think it is all the same, I redrew the diagrams to reflect the cables that come with the Ford Racing starter as well as external solenoid removal. If anyone sees something wrong with this, let me know. OK, heading to the garage now...
OK, them diagrams and instructions all sucked. I dont see how it would be possible to eliminate the starter relay. The only way i could get it to work was... 1. Move the existing heavy starter cable to the other side of the starter relay and land it on the same post as the hot battery cable (this keeps the starter cable hot at all times.) 2. Run a new 12 ga. wire from the new starters small terminal and land it on the same starter relay post where the old starters heavy gauge cable was landed. I tryed a few configurations, but I could not get the neutral safety/ ignition wire to engage the starter (as the other diagrams show.) the coil wire from the solenoid would crank the starter, but cranks in the run position and never drops out. Besides, If I could wire it the way it said to eliminate the starter relay, the new starter solenoid is requiring a bigger ga. wire than the neutral saftey wire coming up from the tranny. If someone could explain another way to wire it, I would sure like to hear it. I started to make a new and improved diagram, but its time consuming so I am not going to finish unless there is some interest in this subject. I will add what I have so far.
