Maybe small amounts of bleach on the out side.My body shop manager recomended this for black mold under trunks, in the drain gutters.:90: Try this in low places first.

Unfortunitely With all the mold on the outside I would be worried about what is retained within all of the fabrics. Chances are you will never get all the mold out of the seats, the carpets, the door pannel backing and mold can be pretty hazardous to your health.

If it was just surface mold I would say do what we do when we find mold in a house. If it is on concrete usually you take 2 tablespoons bleach in a 20 oz squirtbottle and fill it the rest of the way with water. Spray it on, let it soak for a few min and wipe it off, then clean with a good cleaner, like pine sol or something like that. I dont know what the bleach would do to the interior of the car though, it could discolor, the materials, or downright degrade them.

Lysol concentrate is usually safe for fabrics. I have used it in laundry before. Mix it to different strengths according to the label.

I don't imagine that it would hurt vinyl at all and pretty sure that is what I used myself on a previous car that was stored for a short while and had mold starting.

Scrubbing the seats and door panels ought to be OK. I would go easy on the visors and headliner. .... and surprisingly, the kick panels and rear side panels look rugged, but I would go very easy on them, the texture is bonded to the panel and will start to shed if not treated very carefully. Age is not kind to them.

Bleach does not kill mold. Pure bleach is only 3 - 5% sodium hypochlorite and the rest is water. Mold neads water so you begin by completely drying out the area it is growing on and the surounding area. then you have to remove the mold and spores or as soon as it gets moisture it will come back with a vengence. Xylene will dry out any moisture almost imediately but I don't know if it is safe on the fabrics and surfaces. You may have to strip all the fabric, carpet and sound deadener out and replace it after washing the area with anti-fungal soap and wiping it down with xylene.

First wash/scrub the outside of the car with about a gallon of hot soapy water with with about a 1/4 to half a cup of bleach in it. Not trying to start anything but bleach DOES kill mold.

Then buy or rent yourself a hand held steam cleaner. Something like the handheld "SHARK" http://compare.ebay.com/like/200621089501?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

Steam clean the hell out of the upholstry, door panels and the carpet (if you plan on keeping the carpet. Then get a bucket of water and Lysol disenfectant and wipe all surfaces with the Lysol.

Then get yourself a few of these
    [IMG]

and use it in the inside of the car. it will collect the moisture/water in the bottom of the bucket. keep emptying the water out of the bucket and keep one or two of these in the car until it you quit finding water in the bottom or at least until is slows down to a minimum.
Once you aren't getting much if any water collection in the Damp Rid container you should be OK after that and the mold shouldn't come back unless the inside of the car gets wet and sits that way again.

Sure makes it disappear. :sweep: We've been using bleach successfully for years on the driveway, deck, house, bathroom tile, and anything else that gets moldy. Works great in the steamy Mid-Atlantic.

oh and BTW the granuals in the Damp rid bucket are just Calcium Chloride (standard swimming pool chlorine). They will eventually disintegrate. If you want to refill the Damp Rid container you can just go to walmart or where ever and purchase a small bottle of HTH (or most any other brand name) chlorine granuals and it is generally cheaper that the damp rid refill packs.
