Does anybody know a company that makes them? Or is custom fab the only way to get our Maverick hands on one? They're eveywhere for 'Stangs but that doesn't help too much...
I got one from Ed (fan2488) and the price was right (just traded some parts for it). I have not installed it yet, and will find some last few parts to bolt it up. Not Chrome plated, but i used POR-15 on it and it is nice and glossy black. I am trying to find some ball joints with the bolts on them to mount the bars to the plates. Then I will install and take pics. Definitely looks good just sitting in there, and I can't wait to get rid of the stock flat-plate supports that are on there now. Ed, is there a better way to mount these than using those airplane-type ball joints? and where can I find something like that? My local hardware place only has farm gate hardware...I will be on the road today up around 290 to pick up a scoop from Rick Book, so if you know of any place that sells that kind of stuff, give me a call. Harbor Freight?
I have made a couple of them. easy to do. scooper-you can get the parts your after at summit or jegs.
Thanks, I will look in those catalogs. Any idea what they are called and in what section they would be located?
monte carlo bar? my Monte Carlo doesnt even have one of those. maybe some one took it off for their Maverick lol
they are called heim joints or rod ends....Is this what your looking for? http://search.ebay.com/heim-joints_W0QQfnuZ1QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ3QQxpufuZx
Grainger sells them as "spherical rod ends" I used them for the clutch rod in the stang, made it a lot easier to adjust.
Didn't find them in JEGS or Summit, except as part of a serpentine setup. TL, they are basically a 90 degree joint with a threaded bottom bolt for attaching to the frame, and the other end is threaded for the turnbuckle, one right-handed threaded, the other left-handed. They don't really NEED to have the ball joint to work for these applications, but it looks better than the fence-building hardware most stores have, and those don't have the left-hand threads. I have two more places to look tomorrow, then I am either calling grainger or have Ed pick some up for me at his local racing shop. All the shops I stopped at today never heard of them, except for Harbor Freight, but they said it was an internet/catalog item only.
I got mine from Mustangs Plus, it was for a '65-'66 Mustang. I just had to lengthen the bar equally on both sides(has the bend in it) by cutting it and adding a section of pipe that would fit inside of the bar itself. Only needed about 1 1/4 inch on both sides. Also had to alter the 'feet' a little. Wasn't too hard to do.
