I went around today looking for something to use under my carpet. Thanks to a phone call from wagesofsin, he recommended I go to an upholstery place and I found a jute with aluminum on both sides for $18 sq/yd and then went on to a Classic car restoration place. He said they sometimes use DynoMat, but most of the time just shoot a spray in bedliner material. Hmmm So I move on down the road to where the ricers and pickup truck drivers get their stuff done, tinting, stereos, alarms, rims, etc. and he says "sometimes we use DynoMat, but usually, since we also do spray in bed liners here, we just shoot a 1/8" layer of that on the floor." Recommended that I get the gallon of roll-on bedliner from Wal-Mart, Duplicolor brand, and said it should work pretty good. So, bought it. Anyone heard anything bad about this before I put it on...
I am using the bedliner along with the "cheaper" dynomat. The shop wanted $500 for the "good stuff" Since I drive my car less than 2000 miles a year, I did not need the "good stuff" for the noise. I am sure the bedliner/dynomat (bought at PEP boys) will help out a lot.
i've only heard good...and it looks pretty good lucky for me mine had no rust so i just put insulation then the carpet on top
I am glad to hear good stuff so far. I remember that the old carpet stopped low enough where your feet are that you could see some black foamy stuff going up behind the dash board, I think it was jute with some black cardboard or something on it. I lost mine years ago after a small fire near the steering shaft, so I pulled it all out (it absorbed the water the guy used to put out the fire and stunk like smoke, so I just tossed it all). I figured I would bedliner all the way up as far as I could and it would appear like the stock configuration with the black stuff on the firewall.
I used the exact same stuff except in the can. Works really well. I did the inside and underneath the car with it. This along with the FatMat insulation should do wonders.
I have none of this stuff in any of my cars. Noise and heat are great friends in my world. However, I do realize I am a dinosaur, dynomat is a great product, the roll on bedliner should produce the results you desire as well. In my past life I was an install mgr of a high end car sound store. Dynomat was the solution to heat and sound problems. That was in the mid 90's and life has changed tons for me. Dan
I have the duplicolor Gallon from Walmart, hope it works out well...I hope to get started on it next weekend...
If you pull the chain to shift you just push it to down-shift. I was dragging a long chin through the shop one day and a fellow worker stopped me to ask why I was dragging the chain... I said, "Have you ever tried to push one?" no more questions.
