Got the OK idea from a Mustang Website ... cost me $10 to have the stamp made using a template from the Mustang site.

Repop battery wires are in. I found out today my regulator was in upside down .. the connector is supposed to face the shock tower not the battery :slap:

Notice the repops ground to the regulator bolt just like the original.

I just bought repop battery cables at Carlisle. I got some for a 1972 Mustang. What did you get, Dan?

Also....the alternator to voltage regulator wiring harness....did you use original or a repop?

I bought the 70/71 battery cables since AUTOLITE marked is correct for my 71 but MOTORCRAFT marked wires are correct for your 1972. They are from Mustangs Unlimited and were listed for 70/71 Mustang and the Ford Parts manual showed that Mustang small block cars and Mavericks used same battery cables. Notice though that the shape of the postive repop connector on the battery post is not like the original. I didn't look but finding NOS ones probably wouldn't have been to hard ...

My wiring harness is original since it was all in good shape.

Also ... for some reason I had thought the battery ground wire went to the lower bolt on the regulator ... but every original Maverick and Mustang picture I found showed it went to the top bolt from the factory.

    Looks real good, Dan.
I used Mustang/Shelby books to get my look. I really wanted the 'COBRA'
stuff so I couldn't do the 'OK' stamps.
I looked at the 'Autolite' battery covers in Carlisle, but they didn't know if
they fit over a Optima Gel Cell battery.

Gonna add one of those tags around the radiator neck?

    Looks great as usual. (y)

Is your "caution fan" sticker in the right place? My '73 4 door and '74 Grabber both have the factory ones still and they are both in front of the radiator on the radiator support, towards the passenger side. You can see it in this pic: http://5hp.hill.cc/maverick/wreck/3.jpg They were both 6 cyl. cars though..

NOt sure ... it just happend to look good there ... :) Did your car have a Fan Shroud? My 74 has one and it was definitely on the Fan Shroud. For cars with no Fan Shroud it would have to be on the radiator support.

I don't think either car had a shroud. I agree, it looks good where you have it.

    Great job!

I just cleaned and painted my valve covers on the Sprint.
It had the original 'OK' stamp, but the blue paint was so scratched and dirty that I could only paint over them... :(
Wanted to keep them, but the paint was sad shape.

    Dave Boyer:
The challenge IMO, is to make the car strong, fast, and modern as possible, while keeping it looking very stock.
This is what Dan has done.
You can hardly tell the intake is a Performer RPM, or the distributor is aftermarket electronic billet...

Going further, you could do 347 cubes with aluminum heads and all sorts of tricks and still have it looking just like Dan's.
Even a smallish solid roller wouldn't raise any eyebrows, but would make a wide and flat power band.
