Some Pinto wagons had 3.55's and Trac-Lock as well. As for the Mustang II, I don't think there's a reliable way to know which ones had them aside from the tag on the rearend or physically turning it.
I pulled an 8" rear end out of a '78 Pinto sedan recently for my '76 wagon; it is a 3:55 non-posi. Per your comment, most wagons were fitted with 6.75" rear ends, and were very weak. 8" rear ends were typically only fitted to Pintos that had the V6 option; it was not a question of "wagon or sedan", but motor size. Chris
just check the tag. that's the only way to really know for sure. ive "heard" that alot of posi's are found in the V6 cars, but i have found one in the junkyards that was V6 and had 3.55/open gears. so just to be sure, check the tag
Ah yeah, forgot that part... "V6 wagon" is what I heard ...But ultimately, Mean is right here. If I've learned anything through my junkyard experiences regarding old Fords, it's that they mixed and matched certain components with no rhyme or reason. Every "rule" gets broken at some point it seems.
ford called them a trac loc. posi was coined by by gm and trademarked but has become a genearic term commonly applyed to limted slip devices.
The Trac Lok I have came out a mustang II it's a 3.00 gear . I bought it from a freind and don't know how the car was built ..
