so i have the chance to pick up a mustang II pretty cheap and was wondering did ford put 4 speed toploader transmissions in the mustang II. just so you know it does have a 4 speed in it. but it has the four banger in it. any info would be great. the reason i can get it really cheap is that my friend needs a mustang II front suspention for his falcon and if it has a toploader i want to help him pay for it so i can have the transmission.

If it has a 4 banger it will not be a toploader, also crawl under the car and see if has a drop out pumkin. The older M2 73 74's had the different style rearend sorry i do not know the right name. but it would have a rear pan on it. I hope that helps

I doubt that it is a Toploader unless someone put it
    there.
    Just my opinion.

I had a '74 MII in college. It had that crappy, no torque
but would wind like heck to 6000 RPM V6. It seems like
    it was a 2800cc?
Mine was an A/T. I don't know what rear ratio it had but
at 70 mph it was turning about 3200. If I shifted it manually
it would chirp into 2nd. Funny, I don't even have the Comet
    tranny set to do that.

Mustang II`s never had a toploader transnission...the 4 speed `s they came with aren`t nearly as strong.
