I have seen 4-Speed trannys from Mustang II w/ 302s go for pretty cheap and I was wondering if they made a good candidate for a swap? Does anyone know anything about these transmissions?
The four speeds from the Mustang II is not a performance four speed. The bell housing and bolt pattern are different from the earlier transmissions and most came with an eight inch clutch. They are a light (WEAK) transmission that is servicable for street duty if you are careful but not for racing of any kind. The foregoing has been my opinion and others may vary.
I used to beat the Hell out of a Cobra II back in the day and it had a 4 speed. It was fun until 1st gear disappeared.
Tranny The tranny used with the 302 Mustang II's is the Borg-Warner SR-4. It is indeed not a performance tranny. It held up fine behind the 130 horse 302's. It did serve as a pattern so to speak for the later T4 and T5 tranny's, but they were upgraded some.
