i know alot of guys are using 69-73 mustang wings on their maverick/comets but when i went to look them up the 69/70 spoiler is sold as a diffrent part then the 71-73 even though they look pretty much the same. is there any diffrence and what would be the one to get for a maverick/comet?
I dont remember which but, one has taller pedestals than the other. The taller one seems to be the one that fits mavs/comets better.Your going to need a prop rod to hold your trunk lid open once you put a spoiler on it... good luck Tony.
Good question! I had a spoiler on this car back in the late 80's that I ordered from MAS along with louvers from JC Whitney(wish I had about 4 sets in the shop now-$89 then!!) but I don't know what year they were for. Best I remember I just measured the posts and they lined up pretty close to the cutouts in the trunk lid. That sucker was heavy and I kept a axe handle in the trunk to hold it up after getting Exedrin headache 452 from it!! This old pic is fuzzy from being scanned but you can see the spoiler pretty well. Hope this helps!! Scott http://mmb.maverick.to/attachment.php?attachmentid=1711&d=1058929946
Let's see if I remember correctly... The 70 is taller, wider, and the stands are further apart. The 71-73 is shorter, narrower wing, and the stands are closer together. It goes something like that anyway. I know for sure the 71-73 is shorter in stance... shorter stands, legs, pedestals, whatever term you like. Personally, I like the 71-73 on Mav/Comets. Just my personal preference. The 70 style stands up way too tall for my taste. Dave
Here's a couple of one with a 71-73 spoiler. Edit: Here is one with a 70 wing... It's too lofty and wide for my taste, but then again, it might be me getting old. Also, there were several other FoMoCo products that used these spoilers. From what I understand they are all a bit different. However only the 2 Stang versions are repopped, and fit all applications 'close enough'.
the 71-73 definatly looks alot better imo, thatks for the pics. if i had that red/black grabber tho i probably would have mounted the spoiler closer to the rear of the trunk lid
Don't suppose you still have those louvers, do ya? Gettin very hard to find around here. Got people always trying to talk me outa mine.
I bought 3 sets of those in the early 90's but they are long gone now! Sorry I ever sold that last set since you can't find them any more. Do yours mount under the lip of the rear window trim or are they another type?? Scott
Mine has the 69 Mach 1 rear spoiler. I don't need anything to prop up the trunk lid. It stays open just fine. Have to be carefull closing it though, it is heavy.....
