The wife's 05 Mustang's stereo all of a sudden says PHONE and displays the clock, and won't do anything else. None of the buttons work, and we cannot get it to go off, even after turning the car on and off, and pulling the fuse (even overnight). I hoped the fuse would reset but when I put it back in, and started the car, back to PHONE 12:01.

    Has anyone ever seen this?

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

There are likely multiple wires supplying power to the stereo. You will likely need to remove the head unit completely to reset it or disconnect the battery for a period of time. Hopefully a reset will fix the problem.

I was looking around on the web to see what your talking about. Couldn't find anything about "phone". I came across this about the amps and speakers and how they work etc.. Very techy. Wayy too much stuff going on for my brain. Intresting stuff but not what I would want to mess with. Maybe you can throw the question at these guys since they are all about the system.

Just plugged the battery back on, and VOILA!!! It WORKED!!!

Thanks for the suggestion! I was not aware that just pulling the fuse would not kill all the power to the radio.

Surprisingly, it kept the channels in memory, and I only have to reset the clock.

All my internet searches were leaning toward a $450-650 radio swap for this problem...:yikes:

Oh. And I read something about "Aux" button. Does that not switch it? And a jack in the door arm rest.. Might check to see if there is something in there.. Good luck.

Gene, this really is a very sophisticated setup. And sad part is I don't think I can swap in a Sony system. I have to replace it with the Shaker each time. I keep hearing that none of the other stereo heads will fit the electronics.

One of them guys in that link was using something else.. I thought it was a Sony something.. That's where it got hairy scary. Something about the sound waves changing and some term called "clipping". Where the wave changes from one form to a square wave because of too much bass.

When in doubt reboot. If fix cars on a regular basis with a battery disconnect. Modules lock up or get confused just like your PC. Its very common place now. Especially multi media modules. Amps dead, volume stuck,no display, bluetooth phone(UCONNECT) is a nightmare with Chryslers, the list is endless.

I "thought" I was re-booting with the pull of the fuse, but didn't realize that it required a Full Reboot, at the battery.

I know better now. You learn something new every day!

To make it worse, a lot of the software and hardware comes from all different sources and half the time they get confused. The last couple of model years powertrain control modules use flash erasable memory, so not even a battery disconnect would work on them. Glad you got it back, I missed this one earlier this morning.

I have an 05 mustang/Shaker 1000. I am having the same issue with the PHONE display. I unplugged the battery, did the rest and had no luck. Any other suggestions on how this can be fixed?
