i was wondering if anyone here has ever installed a mustang2/pinto 74 up frontend under a maverick? a friend of mine has done it under a 37 ford and said it was easy i just wanted to see if anyone here had done it before. im putting a 460 in mine and i think i want a little more room to work on it than the one on ebay. thanks robert
A number here have done it. Same as Mustang. The spring towers will be removed and some fill-in work to put strength back into the frame areas. You will be in for a good hassle, doing the 460 with exhaust and other items. I would fit the new suspension with 11" disc brakes and a 9" ford disc brake rear. The number of changes you should make to compliment the torque of this motor are many or it will break often if you use it hard with high grip rear tires. I'm not trying to talk you out of anything, just to be awhere of what you can get into. A lot of work and money. Good luck and let us know how your doing.
what i was wondering was if you have to widen the mustand2 cradel or if it will fit the way it is my motor is a 472 cu." dove casting heads with scj stainless valves guide plates ect... it is a 68 block 76 truck rods and crank forged pistons arp rod bolts ect... a620 lift mel. solid cam torker2 intake msd ignition. ect. i have a c6 shiftkited and a 3500 stall. i have a 9" out of a granada.370gears with a spool. how wide of a tire will fit under the stock wheel well (rear)??? i,m gonna run a coilover/ladderbar rear suspension. i just got back from fortworth tx. i bought a 74 2dr maverick off of ebay. my 75 has alot of rust. i will probably ask alot of??? so everybody be ready. robert
Robert, That maverick should really haul with a 460, well, that is when you change that puny torker intake with a newer design. Still, though, it should be one heck of a ride. I run 28 x 10.5" slicks on the rear, but be prepared to "massage" the inner wheelwell with that size tire. I think a 11.5 or even a 12" tire will fit once the inner wheelwells are gone (mini-tubs) and the leaf springs are replaced with coil-overs. I'm actually contemplating a ladder/coilover setup myself. The 393 is too much torque for the 10.5's. Traction is a big deal with bracket racing, if you spin just a little, kiss that dial-in goodbye. I linked a site that someone installed a M II front end . Good luck! http://www.stuart.iit.edu/students/2112/restoration/M2frontend.htm
thanks for the info. the torker2 intake did'nt have small runners the torker did. but what do you expect iv'e had the intake for 9 yrs. robert
I just put the mustang II front on our 72 grabber, we got the kit from Rods & Customs. It fit perfect and was pretty easy to install. The car drives and handles great we just took it to the round up in New Castle Ind. 4200 miles total. The kit is the only way to go they make it so easy everything is there no extra parts to buy.
I did a search on "Rods & Customs" and came up with tons o' hits. Do you have a link to the particular site you bought the kit from? Thanks, Rick
