This is my 71 Comet, original 302, C4. Not real pretty but it's a driver. I have no plans of restoring this, just enjoying it. I paid $500 for it about a year ago. The registration was expired and it needed exhaust, water pump and the carb rebuilt.
Hubcaps came off and I found some hard to find factory 15x7 steelies (found on 429 torinos/mustangs and boss 302's)
I like the Comet, especially the clean up under the hood, I have done similar work to mine which I drive and enjoy everyday, I hope you are enjoying your comet. my 302 came from a 73 comet, I also got doors and many other parts from it which I will use to replace parts ruined when my car sat through hurricane katrina.
awesome work so far! I remember seeing the comet in the classifieds last year... looks like a fun project
I have the passenger fender but want to replace the front bumper first. There's no rust on the car, floors and 1/4s are good. I've gone back and forth about selling it since I have another 71 (comet gt). Next on the list is the heater core that just started leaking, flipping to the blackwall of the tires, 1 inch lowering block for the rear and start the body work.
Looks good so far. If your not going to keep it just keep doing small cosmetic and mechanical things like you are now, maybe an exhaust system and improve the handleing with things like swar bars, monte carlo bar etc. I wouldnt do any body work though because if i was buying i would rather see original paint than primer. That car would look good black with satin black gt stripes and a satin gt hood scoop. Ive made the mistake of spending too much time and money on a car i wasnt keeping only to lose money and time on the car i really wanted to build.
I don't think I'd get my money out of suspension and exhaust. As far as body work. I agree with you on original paint. You never know what lies under primer or how well the car was prepped. That paint scheme sounds good but a black isn't very nice to amateur body work although it would look great.
I love your Comet. Reminds me of the one I bought down in NC for $50.00 when I was in high school. It was dark ivy green with the light ivy interior, 302 auto. Had the drivers fender banged and grill out of it. Will be a nice ride when you get it fixed. - Matt
what grit are you using? id start with 80 grit on paint and 36 on the filler. you gona do the bodywork section by section?
