some know, and some dont.... but for everyone to know, im building a 351w for my '73 Grabber. i just got the block back from the machine shop today and everything looked good. had it dipped, cleaned, line bore checked, cylinders honed, installed new cam bearings, and installed new brass freeze plugs. keep in mind this is a F4TE block, so it's a roller engine it's going to be a winter project type of thing and hopefully come spring, it'll be ready to drop in. here's pics of the engine (after i shot it with Ford Blue)... and my new oil pan that arrived today (and it got painted too)...
Plans for the engine are as follows: -F4TE roller block, STD bore -Flat top KB pistons with valve reliefs -CNC Profiled lightweight I-beam rods -Stock '86+ steel crank -Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads 2.02/1.60 -Trick Flow Stage 1 roller cam .498"/.512" -Edelbrock RPM or Holley Street Dominator intake (haven't decided) -Full ARP engine stud kit -Clevite 77 bearings -10.8:1 CR -Street/Strip C4 with 2500 stall -Ford 9" Versailles rear with 28 spline Traction-Lok -3.50 gears
that sounds pretty good. you may want to go with the stage 2 cam. the tfs cams were desgined around 302s. with the 351 the power band will be lower than the power band that the cam is desgined for witha 302. i had a tfs stage 2 cam in a 306 in my old mustang and it ran really well.
Thanks for the advice. i was talking to my bro today and we were second guessing the cam as well.....
arent they, though?! i can hook you up with a nice guy that i got them from... now u know what i was doing while i was on the phone with ya
i love seeing that big brown truck.... got my cam, lifters, timing set, rod bearings, main bearings in today! pistons and rings should be here thursday and here's my cam card:
Nice build. If it were me id go with an rpm air-gap intake and atleast a stage 2 cam. In fact i think id run the comp cams camquest software just to see what it says. But id bet it will like more than that.
im prolly going to run the RPM intake, not sure about the air-gap because im running a stock Grabber hood. this is the stage 2 cam from Trick Flow so should match the twisted wedge heads pretty well for what im wanting
