Well, most of you know my transmission dillemas, (not pumping fluid, therefore no go) so we called the tranny shop today to check up on everything, and they had it all apart, and here is what happened to the tranny. Apparently the engine and transmission were not bolted up perfectly so the gears between the pump and the torque convertor didn't mesh correctly. Anyway, upon startup, this minor error split the pump in two, yes TWO!! It also messed up the torque convertor, so that is trashed too. Since the tranny had most likely 164,000 miles on it without a rebuild the clutches were smoked and needed replacement, so basically I am getting a whole new driveline. Mind you, the tranny worked and drove before, so the clutches still worked, but were a little tired. Anyway, the moral of the story is: even though the transmission bolts up perfectly and easily to the engine the first time, lots of things can go wrong, and make sure you know the EXACT process in which they need to be assembled. On the brighter side, I get a new tranny with a shift kit. Should be fun I'll let you guys know how it moves/feels when I get it back Thurs/Friday. As of right now, my precious C4 is laying in numerous pieces of shrapnel on a workbench of the tranny shop.... -Corbin
corbin, i imagine your looking forward to being able to move that car on it's own power. should go pretty good since your engine sounds like it really has a lot of pep when i heard it. good luck.
Thanks, Don. You are absolutely correct, I am very much looking foreward to it moving under it's own power. Will let you know when I get it home. -Corbin
I got the ol Mav back today, and now it lives and jumps again. Man does it jump; sort of scary what a more powerful 302 and a rebuilt tranny can do for you. It seems like a completely different car. I got some new points the other day, and I am going to put those in because my old ones are trash and so the car runs like it has a fat cam in it. Anyway, I am very excited and with the points and a new carb along with some adjustments, the Mav will be running like a champ. I'll let you know how it turns out. -Corbin
