So i decided to take the engine out of my mav to change the piston rings due to very low compression rates, and decided to share my disassemble and rebuild with you guys.

Here's the test subject, my '73 mav, front, back and next to wife's ibiza.

here's the engine, 289, made in mexico, with a lot of water and oil leaks, crappy spark plug wires, and a seriously malfunctioning carb.

once the engine is out, here's a picture of the engine bay, you can see all the wear, and grease acumulated. The paint is all faded. Those 2 hoses were actually unhooked, i don't know exactly where they go but i'm guessing they have to do something with the heater? ah well.

The rocker arms and valve springs are in good shape, the valve seats not, so i changed them.

Am I to assume, due to the lack of screw-in studs, you will be keeping the cam stock?

Yes it all will be pretty much stock since we don't get to have many performance products here and if you find them they triple:yahoo: the price you pay in the US. I know it's probably a boring rebuild for many of you but all I wanted was to share my experience since it's my first time doing this! :yahoo:

Seeing an engine come to life is never boring!
