I'd like some input here guys, if ya can. My son would really like a louder exhaust note for his mav(most 15 year old boys would I think). The car is a '73 with 250. It has a practically new exhaust on it now with some sort of muffler called a Turbo Tube which basically sounds like stock, just a lil louder. I don't want to go to duals, I just want to change the muffler. Has anyone had any experience with a single 40 series flowmaster? I realise that may be a few more decibels than needed, but I dont want it to sound stock either. Any suggestions for a good sounding single muffler in the stock location on a six banger? A dual outlet muffler would be great. Any ideas guys?
    Thanks!

You'll probably need to stick with a Cherry Bomb if you want to keep it in the stock location .. Where's Cedartown, GA ??

It's in the metro area - west, northwest from Atlanta.

I'm not to fond of cherry bombs personally. The two chamber flowmaster should be plenty loud for what he wants, especially if he is not running cats. If you want LOUD, look into the dynomax bullits, but without killing his hearing, do the necessery exhaust mods to fit the flowmaster, imo. too often a cherry bomb exhaust makes a car sound like a farm truck.

I agree, but then I think we are usually comparing them to the rumble of a v8. A lot of the young guys are use to the sounds of imports, so to them in my opinion, it shouldn't be disappointing to them, just louder! :D

I have a glass pack on my 250 inline six, and it's okay, but my nephew even made the comment that it sounds like a truck!

I have a Flowmaster on my dual cat-back system on my F-150, 4.9. It sounds good and absolutely not too loud. You have to check your inspection laws, if you have any, on glass packs. The Flowmaster line is too similar in external construction to conventional mufflers to create a problem there. Some states won't allow glass packs under state inspection laws.

Thanks for all the good advice guys! Cedartown is just south of Rome, ga and yes..Nortwest of Atlanta. Let me clarify, when I say loud, I mean louder than stock, not deafening and I'm not trying to get a V8 Sound. Lot's of inlines sound good. XKE Jaguars, etc. Any opinions on a single Walker DynoMax or similar Turbo mufler? Anyone tried the Summit chambered mufflers?

Those Summit mufflers (at least the two I cut off a mustng the other day) sound horrible.
A Flowmaster will sound nice, but i'd stick to a 2" tailpipe to keep from getting too loud.

I have a 12 inch Glass pack on my 250 Grabber and it sounds like a cross between a ricer and a sick V8. Burbles on deceleration and it gives me a head ache on steady driving. I have heard of guys using a Camero Flowmaster 1 inlet and two outlets. They say it sounds pretty good.

My 15 year old hates the sound of my 6 with the glass pack. He has been spoiled by V8's.
