What axels are you guys running. These looked great & were expensive. I thought they would do the job.
So, do you have to sort of spin them in as you install them? I have never seen axles with a twisted gear in them. They must be "awesome strong"!!!! I scored mine lengthwise when I installed the spool so I could keep track of the twist, if any, each time I removed them.
I'm not putting them back in. I'm afraid they will break now that they are twisted. I will have to replace them now. Anyone know who makes them stronger?
Mike the racers over in this neck of the woods use Dutchman Axles I dont know if they can make you a 28 spline that will hold up ot not. Here is a link to thier site. http://www.dutchmanaxles.com/
IIRC Moser will warranty any axle as long as it's not 28 spline. May be wrong (been a while). I've seen that countless times, Strange, OE, Moser, Dutchman, and a couple others. Is it perhaps time to upgrade to 31 or 33 spline? I believe 31 spline can still use smaller axle bearings if you are using those. Some axle mfg's list the torque capacity of their axles. Can't remember the ones that do. We have to figure engine torque, plus torque converter torque multiplication, low gear ratio, and final drive (rear end) ratio. Add it all up & see what you get. There's stuff on some of the axle sites that give instructions specifically. Couldn't find it on Moser's site...I remember seeing it somewhere though. For instance a 300 lb-ft engine running through a 2:1 converter...with a 2.46 low gear and 4.10 rear gear, the axles see a lot of torque. 2:1 is usually being slightly conservative as some are as high as 2.6-2.7 depending on the stator, pump & turbine fin angles, etc. And keep in mind that a 300 lb-ft engine is basically a stock 302's torque (or close)....lots of street cars are now 400+. The axles see a TON of torque on them as you can see. BTW mine are moser axles as well. 31 spline. They get inspected often but they're short (the longer one is around 23" if memory serves me correctly)
