Warning: Pictures The long hard winter of Norway has kept us from working to much on the car, but now spring is coming and it is time to fix this car. As the car is pretty much a wreck, there is a lot of things that should be done, and hopefully before Summer. I know you like pictures, so let's provide you with some, and some questions while we're at it. So you might see the shape the car is in right now. The Dashboard was not properly taken care of so we have to remove it and give it a new layer, but we have a problem getting to the last bolt at the driver side. (Picture provided) So any tips here would be great. Also the engine cooler seems might not be in the best shape (Picture provided), how hard is it to replace this part? Remember we are in Norway and the Maverick population is close to extinct. Might I find a replacement part in a junkyard or should I just go to eBay or another american provider as soon as possible. There is a lot of rust on the car as well, but we are working with it, and hopefully I can provide you with some progression soon. On the bright side, the seats looks pretty good. (Picture not provided) Any comment or tip is happily accepted. -Ailur-
Wow! I've never seen a dash pad like that. Do you know any history on the car? and how it got to Norway? Maybe if you could, post the serial number? Enjoy the project!
Know nothing of the history unfortunately. All I know the two previous owner resided in Norway, but I think it has been here quite some while. It has at least been some time since it was in the hands of someone who really cared for Mavericks. As I didn't point out, it is just the upper part of the dashboard we want to remove as removing the main part has way more work to it, and most of the guides on it suggests the removing of front window, a time consuming task I think I'll wait a while with. And it is in a rather good shape at the moment, so for now it is only the far left (driver side) bolt we have a problem removing.
Post pix of the two door tags, that'll give us some idea of it's build history. If that's a 1/4" thick layer of bondo on the trunk, I'd be looking for more problems elsewhere! Russ
When you say the engine cooler. Are you talking about the part where the hose attaches. or do you mean the water pump? or radiator? Most of these parts are available at parts stores here. For any info like the dash pad removal Go to the top of the page and click on the search feature. Type what you want in there and all the past threads and posts about that subject will show up. Good luck with your project.
To Don. As far as I know it is the part pictured (where the radiator hose connects to the engine). As you may see it is pretty rotten. Perhaps get on ebay and fire a replacement as soon as possible? Also the S/N for the dashboard is: Odb6b0 11 12 3 (I hope that is the S/N atleast, they were the only numbers I could locate) Will provide a picture of the door tags within a few days
Good luck with your project. Is there bears in Norway? Because it looks like one chewed on the dash. The corroded part on the engine you pointed out is the Thermostat Housing/Water Outlet. Replace the thermostat while your at it. You should check with your local auto parts supply, if they don't stock it I'm sure they have a source. Make sure you get a gasket and silicone too.
We're all out of Bears, but one of the guys I have this project with decided to be helpfull so he tore it to shreds. We'll see how it turns out. It is hard to find parts in Norway as we're not much of a muscle country, but we're going to the junkyard and some other shops nearby this week so who knows, might get lucky. Really appreciate the help here. Will keep you updated as we bump into more trouble on the way.
dash Try to locate or buy a decent "core" dash pad. You can then order a slip on new cover for that pad. Around 70 bucks on e-bay. And you will need to remove the headlite switch/ instrument cluster and heater control panel to access the bolts that hold the pad to the metal dash. Kinda a PITA As noted the corroded part on the ft of your motor is the termostate housing and should be readily available.
thats the thermostat housing that looks rotted (looks chipped and some red paint on it) you should be able to find one of those fairly easily, i'm pretty sure they interchange on all 5.0 motors, and if you have a straight six you should check out classicinlines.com they have a lot of great six parts, idk about there shipping though
OFF TOPIC: I want to visit Norway some day the Scandinavian Metal Scene is awesome!!! sure beats the Lame US Metal scene
Long time no see. Basically we've had a busy easter, and 5 garbage bags full of sandpaper. But results have payed off. We got into painting today! All we had to work with was a two-car garage and an old air-compressor. But I just thought I'd give you and heads-up as I know you like results. We did choose a matte finish as this is our first project and we were not sure how our shaping work was. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. 3 more layers tomorrow.
