Anybody know what's supposed to plug in here? I bought the 1974 Mav as a project in the middle of a 250 to V-8 conversion and all the electrical was removed from the engine compartment. I'm putting it back together and I was wondering what plugged in here. It's on the driver's side in front of the shock tower, three wires going to it. I got a wiring diagram from maverickcomet.com but it doesn't show anything (kinda crappy diagram but better than nothing!) there, nor does it mention the seat belt interlock under the dash. Anyone have this on their car and tell me what it is? Anyone have a complete electrical diagram for a 1974 Mav?

    Thanks

    Seatbelt Interlock Bypass Switch

It was on '74 and a few '75 cars only.
Those yrs. had a system that required the
front passenger(s) to have their seatbelts
buckled in order for the car to start.

That wire connected to a little silver box with
a red rubber button switch that allowed the
mechanic to depress it and start the car
without someone sitting in the driver's seat
    with the seatbelt on.

Look under the dash in the area of the radio and you
may find a box connected to some wires and
mounted on a metal flange. I have seen the
boxes in gray and lavender. That is the control
    for the Seatbelt Interlock System.

Easily bypassed. Do a search on this site for
the system to find topics previously posted on
    bypassing it.

    I would say seatbelt interlock.

My button was black box with red button, and my box under dash was yellow. Mine is 74 (assembled late 73).

Thanks guys. Yup, I got the yellow box under the dash. I wondering what that was also. Anyone have a wiring diagram that shows this stuff? I'm just curious about it.

I found this, hopefully it helps, I dont think it was exactly for a ford but I think the seatbelt interlock would be a universal feature across all models

I always wondered why there are so many wires running in and out of that box, when all it does is prevent the car from starting if some switch isn't engaged...Seems like they could have done the same thing with only 2 or 4 wires.

Sounds like it would only take 2 wires...perhaps most of the connectors on the relay are duds and just used to dissuade people from trying to bypass it?

Highly unlikely, but possible...that and I dont know where all the other wires lead, so what I just said might have been the dumbest thing some of you have ever heard.:biglaugh:

I bypassed mine by unplugging the box and connecting 2 wires together out of the connector. They're red and white, but I'm not sure about the tracers. When I get the car back together and I'm sure it works I'll do a thread with pics. Then you can all take yours out and run it over :D

JPS, that is NOT the dumbest thing I have heard. Because it was EXACTLY what I have always thought...:Handshake
