went to an alignment shop this morning first then when they opened was right in and took this guy 2 hours to get my alignment right.... all i needed was the camber set cus i lowered it and put in new camber bolts. and it took him 2 hours???? well it wasnt my normal guy who works on alot of old cars down here. left there and it was popping like the front end was popping . i thought it was the upper control arms like he over tightened them or something. got off of work and went over there and same guy was there and the manage too and they said that my control arms were loose. but they have been fine the last 1000 miles that i have driven her and no noise before and after there was. went back and had them look at it and hear the noise. they looked at the upper control arms and they tighten them more and now its even louder. whats going on really???? im going in the morning again and my guy is going to be there but i want you guys opinion too thanks
Do you have power steering? There will be "slack" in the linkage unless the motor is running and boosts the pressure in the hydraulic sleeve. See the link below that I started when I (and the alignment guy) discovered the trick. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=47919
no i have manual steering its like a clicking popping. i cant understand how before i took it in it was quite and fine and all they needed to change was the camber and they took 2 hours and now its horrible to drive everything is new , well new as almost 1k miles ago, and its been fine and then now they say something has been loose and tighted it and its like this
sounds like something is still loose. did they say that all they did was a camber adjustment? when you adjust camber you have to readjust toe also. if they did caster they may have not goten the strut rod nuts tight again. also some times they will loosen the uper controle arm bolts and put shims in between the controle arm and shock tower to try to adjust camber or caster. they may not have retightened them. sence you just lowered it you may have the bushings in the upper controle arm bushings binding causing the poping.
idk what they did or didnt have to adjust i know that they had to get the camber right. and i watched them when i had to take it back to make sure and they tighten ever thing down.... so it might be binding?? how can i make sure of this and or fix it? i know it didnt look like it was binding they are pretty close to being level to the ground
its hard to find clunks and clicks. can you get it to do it by bouncing the car while its parked? if so then get a friend to bounce it and you need to try to find where the noise is coming from. to see if the upper controle arms are binding your going to have to take out the spring and shock and dissconect the upper ball joint. now move the arm up and down and see if it binds or clicks.
I can get the car to click while its parked just by pressing down on the fenders it does it..... Well ill wait to take all that about till i get back to the alignment shop it wasnt doing it before i took it in and now it is i mean even after i lowered it still had the old camber shafts in there and drove it about 50 miles to get some stuff and it never clicked or anything. Would by them tighting the upper control arm ( the big bolts on the sides that have the grease fitting ) could they over tighten this and that cause binding
Yes it would if they didn't put a special tool inside the arm to keep it from collapsing when they tightening. They shouldn't need to mess with this part of the a-arm to align the front end
i didnt think so thanks rthomas when they told me that it was loose and they tightened it i knew that didnt so right. so what this special tool that is needed??? im sure tomorrow when i do the alignment guy that did my car before will know what to do but still would like to learn as much as i can so i know when i go up there
Those camber bolts can be a you know what to get tight, and they will pop while your driving. I thought I had mine tight, went around the block, and pop....pop.
ok i think i get it so that might be my issue that they tighten them down and they shouldnt of and it they were still on the car with the springs in and all. and ill make sure to get them to re tighten the camber bolts so i can see that is tight too
There is a possibility that the shock towers are cracked. It is not unheard of and it is the reason that the factory put reinforcement plates on.
