I am having issues with the stud girdle hitting the valve covers and need to either go with some spacers under the valve covers or get some that are taller. These are the tall Ford diecast aluminum ones...................If I go either way I'm going to hit the master cylinder. Are there any smaller master cylinders that someone can think of that will fit without having to modify the whole brake system.

    Thanks for your help.

the more modern master cylinders that are a aluminum tube with a plastic tank. they should be narrower at the bottom than the stock cast one. the one for 87-93 dodge pickups is the same one wilwood used to sell before they started makeing there own. it would be a good choice if you have 4 wheel disks.

Thanks guys, I one thing I forgot to mention is the Maverick still has 4 wheel drum brakes. I suppose I could use the Ranger and put residual valves inline until I get some front disc brakes.

I have the same one, very happy with it. Make sure you pick up a couple of flare nuts that fit the MC as well as the tubing in your car - the threads are metric.

(Edit: ...Or just use adapter fittings.)

    Hi Jeff,
I like this setup for the MC. Im think abt new mc for my Comet. I was thinkin abt orig type or billet - had never saw any setups like this. I'll now have to consider this type of setup. Thanks for the post.

Are all the masters for the 90 Ranger the same? Or is this for a 4 cyl, 6 cyl...or what? I'm, going to switch to one, and just need to know what to order...auto trans, standard...?

    Thanks

Actually, no. There was a mid-year change. Before 2/90 the fittings were on the wrong side. After 2/90 they're on the driver side where you need them. Also, they are available with a 15/16" or a 1" bore. You want the smaller bore for manual brakes. If you have power brakes as I do, (or if you just want a firmer pedal) go 1" bore.

The MC I bought was actually listed for '91. It's the same part, but when you say '91 you eliminate the possibility of getting the fittings on the wrong side. I don't think it matters, but I told the parts guy I had the 4.0 engine.

    Jeff,

Did the master cylinder just bolt up to the existing mount or did you have to modify anything other than the lines?

    Thanks

If you wanna stay with the stock master cylinder...There's more than one way to skin a cat.

    Thanks Jeff,

I like the smaller master cylinder myself, and it should give me enough room to put the spacers under the Ford valve covers......................I just like the look.
Thanks for all of your help.

Just a question...will the resevoir fit under the good without mods? Looks high, but it may just be an illusion.

Hood closes just fine, even with a brake booster. (y)
