I'm looking to upgrade my HOT ROD from a "Crash Box" Saginaw 4 Speed with an "Indy" shifter to a "Pro Shifted" Super T-10 and considering the Hurst/Mr Gasket V-Gate Inline Shifter. I have found there have been a few design changes over the years and I like the compact design of the earlier shifters (RamRod, etc) but don't know how well they work. Anyone have any personal experience?

I used to race using a Ramrod back in the 80's. I absolutely loved it. The only complaint I had was when street driving. If you shift them too slowly it will either jam up from 1st to second or shift from 1st to 4th. Basically all you are doing is taking the H pattern and turning it on it's side and adding springs to help it drop into the proper gear. I originally purchased it to keep from missing third gear and it did that well. But then I found I could miss second if I didn't shift fast enough.

Thanx Tony, thats the kind of input I need. The car is street legal but rarely street driven. Sounds like I may want to consider a Super Shifter.

Any time...don't hesitate to ask. I love four speeds and can't get enough of rowing the gears.

If it is street legal then you should look at the Super Shifter 3 with the reverse lockout lever. If you just have to have an inline shifter then the only choice is a Long unit. Check with G-Force transmissions for info on the Long shifter.

Personally, I like banging gears with the standard old Hurst shifter. Takes more skill and a lot more fun. Sure I miss a gear once in a while, but thats why rev limiters were invented. :D
