I've been knocking around the idea of building a "Gasser" style car for a few years now, but hadn't found an appropriate or cheap enough project to do it on.

So, I was thinking, even though Mavericks came on the scene around the end of the Gasser era, it's still a conceivable idea, and I've got a straight looking Maverick with just enough rust problems to eliminate it from resto-street car status, but might be a perfect candidate for a stripped down Gasser style retro project.

Anyone got any pics of Gasser style Mavericks, or know of one from your past.....pics would really be helpful, open to any ideas and tips too.

Don't think I'll go so far as the straight front axel thing (although probably no more dangerous than stock Maverick front suspension! LOL) and some radical front end reworking might allow for a big block which would lend to the whole radical Gasser feel.

I'd be shooting for a mainly straight-line style car, but one that could be driven on the street, although it wouldn't have to be corner or handling friendly, and I live in Arkansas, so just about anything goes legally....no smog or even safety inspections, but it should be basically street legal....lights, basic exhaust, etc.

Gassers were all the rage when I was coming of age in my interest in cars....too young to drive, but not too young to be awed and inspired by the trends of the time.

    Whatchya all think?

I wonder what it'd cost to have some custom fenderwell headers made for a Maverick? LOL

If this thread would be more appropriate or get more response in another forum section, the powers that be should feel free to move it accordingly

    I love that idea!

I've always been a gasser fan, and a fan of anything nostalgia or 70's...

This might be useful as inspiration

This car also ran in a Gasser class, although it may not look like one

    Or how about this?

I did a Google image search for "Gasser Maverick" and found several good pics, including the gasser/altered Multi-Maverick pics you posted there....then found some actual Gasser Maverick/Comet pics.....guess where the pics came from?.....

    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=52189

Seems this has been discussed to a point here before! LOL

Still looking for more pics, opinions and ideas though.

This car will be a "specialty" car.....it doesn't have to be but the very basic of "streetable".....it doesn't matter if it doesn't corner well or isn't an all-round every day car....it won't be. I have my primary project Maverick to be an all-round street performance car....this is an extra/parts car that has little hope of ever being a restored street car.....Maverick floorboards are hard to find and replace....but sheetmetal floorboards are fairly easy, and on a "strip" style car, originality isn't a concern....this is going to be a "for fun" car, but definately serious fun!

The one that pops into my mind first when I think,"Gasser" is Incognito

This is the best, and closest example so far to what I'm thinking about... (props to scooper77515 for the pic)

Looks like it has the straight front axel, but front end heighth isn't too over-the-top, and it's got the prerequisit "Gasser" long ladder bars in the rear.

It's missing injector stacks though :p

I forgot about that car, I really like it, those wheels are nice too, Halibrands or Keystones would also be really nice on there, I really like your plans.

Yeah, and those old pipe-organ mechanical injection set-ups were hard to keep in tune, but I've heard they make them electronic now....all the dependability and performance of electronic fuel injection, with the impressive retro stacks look.

Wonder if I could get them for a 460?

    Emphasis on the "$$$$$$$$$"

$30,000+ for a motor is just a wee bit out of my budget!

I admit, a cammer Maverick would be the ultimate wicked....

I'll have to leave that to a Maverick/Comet lover with more "means"

But yeah, I already have two complete '71 460 engines. One is going into my 64 Galaxie....the other.....

    we shall see ;)
