I have a bump right on the most visible part of my carpet...the tranny hump...

I have hit it pretty hard with the wife's hair dryer and then her iron (good thing she is not awake yet:oops: ) and it will not go down.

The pictures do not do it justice, it has about a 1/2" gap.

Should I keep working with it with the iron and heat, send it back, or possibly put a padding of jute under it?

The floor shifter will go in this area, but it is just a gate shifter, no housing, boot, etc. When i bolt that down, the bump will be even more pronounced.

it would do not good to send it back....then next one would be the same.

I have another option for you to add to your list: Live with it. :D

I was just discussing the "live with it" option with the wife. Someday, in the future, I will build a console around the shifter and this would be hidden. I might just make that day come a little sooner...

I have plenty of it. Figured it wouldn't hurt to have an extra sound/heat resistant layer.

Could be that you have too much insulation under the carpet now, and it's not letting the carpet sit down in the floor pan like it was made to do.
The more you build everything up under the carpet the more you reduce all the low spots, and if the carpet was made to be used without all the extras, it's sitting higher .

There is only a layer of bubble wrap, Nothing else.

I ended up putting a layer of jute under there. Bolted down the shifter, and there is still lots of extra material. I will just have to live with it until I build my console.

By way, this is one-piece Trim-Parts carpet...haven't we had some success stories with their product?

Good thought here. Or when you cut for shifter, little lost on how shifter (mounts) looks, can you pull, stretch, shrink carpet?

I had the same problem when putting in my carpet a few weeks ago. I had to add extra insulation over the hump to get rid of it. I also spaced up the shifter with some washers to keep it from smashing the carpet into the insulation (if I hadn't, it would have looked bad).

Mine looks kinda odd with the shifter pushing it down, but I am leaving it that way. I will eventually put a console around it.
