Okay guys, I am having trouble deciding what I wanna do here. When I paint this engine I am building, the heads, oil pan, water pump, timing cover, and intake manifold will be medium Ford blue (painted the heads today). Yes, I am painting my Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold.

I was thinking that painting the entire engine blue might be boring, and am considering painting the block old Ford red, or black, but I can't decide. What do you think would look good? A black block with blue heads, pan, water pump, intake, etc., or a red block with the above mentioned blue components?

Keep in mind that not much of the block is visible when installed in the car, and the engine will have finned aluminum valve covers and a chrome air cleaner.

    Fire away...

Either Blue or black. The first engine block I put in my Grabber I had painted black ... once it was in the car it was not even noticeable ... except for the fact I had painted the timing chain cover black as well. I don't think red would look very good ...

All blue T.L.. Some people like me CAN see the block cause we know where to look, and I think I like the "engine" blu or red. Your heads are already blue so I chose Blu.(y)

Hot Pink, maybe with some purple highlights. THAT would turn some heads :D

Personally, I have been thinking the same thing, and I really like the Ford Blue block with black heads, maybe chrome (or black) oilpan and chrome covers.

Are you painting the entire valve covers, or just the fins?

My dad had a 351W built for his '78 truck a few years ago. He wanted to be able to spot leaks. He painted the engine an off white, kind of a cream color.
Don't do that one. Trust me. Just don't do it.

On the lighter side, paint it Chevy orange and tell everybody you have a Vega.:yikes:

I vote for all black and leave the intake aluminum color. Not partial to
blue at all...too much blue is overwhelming.
