Hey guys, I am still attempting(as time permits) to isolate this annoying driveline vibration. I finally was able to run the car up on the drive on rack with the suspension at ride height and I think I have this somewhat figured out. The front of the driveshaft has about 1/8" runout coming out of the transmission and none at the pinion end. This driveshaft has been back to the same guy several times to be checked and he says there isn't a problem. It goes through u-joints about every 10k miles and now the yoke in the trans is showing signs of bushing wear. So either the shaft runout IS out of spec or the tailshaft in the trans is bent. The transmission is from a friends Cobra that had no issues before he took it out and installed a Tremec TKO. The bushing to yoke clearance seems to be OK at this point as the movement is very slight. (nowhere near as much as the runout) My driveshaft measures 45 3/8" joint center to joint center and I have approximately 1" of plunge into the trans at ride height with no signs of bottoming out. I know some of you have installed the T5 and AOD's without shortening the shaft but I didn't write down the full length before I had it modified. I need the measurement of the stock shaft joint center to joint center to compare so that I can brainstorm my options for a replacement. (for the driveshaft and the repair shop). Thanks for your help. Jason
My 73s is 47"without the trans yoke. 57" with it. I just measured it. Thats total length, center to center is 451/2" sounds like is the right length, I cant see an 8th of an inch making a difference.
The stock length 79-04 Mustang GT shaft is the right length. I bought a new (leftover from production) 04 Stang driveshaft for mine from Ft Wayne driveline (off their ebay auctionsite) and had them check it for runout, straightness, balance and paid less than $150 for it.
I just got my car back from getting the 250 six, to 302 swap and in the process it moved the trany forward about a inch and I have picked up a little vibration. The mechanic said he thought it was the drive shaft because it soesn't go into the trany as far now, so it looks like I will need to have the drive shaft lenghtened 1" to 1 1/2". I was wondering if this is common?
