Hey guys! I just got a couple used amps and speakers for my '71 Mav:

Alpine 1000watt RMS mono amp (designed for Type-X 12" sub):

Alpine Type-X 12" subwoofer (in ported MTX Thunder box):

    Memphis M-Class 300watt RMS 2-channel amp:

    Diamond Audio S600 component speakers:

First, do I need to get a better alternator to run both of these amps? I'm not going to be killing myself with sound and not looking for a competition setup...just something that sounds nice. Mine car's alternator is a stock replacement. If I need to replace mine, what do you suggest for someone on a tight, TIGHT budget?

Second, how do you suggest installing the component speakers in the front? Mine has no cutouts for speakers in the kick panels currently. Do you suggest door mounting? Kick panel mounting? Separate, custom boxes to mount ON the kick panels?

    Any other suggestions/recommendations? Thanks!!!!

I would do a 3g alternator conversion at the minimum. Should be easy to find one at your local junkyard...

Is this conversion neccessary or just something that's suggested. I don't run any kind of accessories other than a couple gauges and my radio.

Edit: I just hooked up my Memphis amp to the sub and it sounds pretty good. I doubt I'll need the big amp to push it to what I want. I've got a second Memphis amp that I can add (75watt RMS x 4) that I can use and bridge it to drive those Diamond Audio component speakers. I think my car will be able to handle this a lot easier, especially since I highly doubt I'll ever get close to max volume (max voltage/amp draw) and really stress my alternator. Thoughts?
