Thinking about going with this ...

    http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=BA56+01

and running a 2 inch pipe out the back .... any suggession on a muffler that would sound good on a 250 6-banger?

By the looks of it some of the bolts seem impossible to get to for installation ...

Go for it. A header will work great. A long semi-quiet muffler will sound best with a sixbanger, IMO. Your next project can be to put a Holly 5200 carb on there.

DM, ask the six guys but if you run a split header and duals all the way back you will get more of a rumble/V8 sound and less of the buzz saw sound, I think! Check into Clifford and FSPP.

The sound isn't all that important as long as it doesn't sound like lawn mower.... If I stick with the single outlet header I have $100 on the header and another $150 or so on the second muffler and second exhaust run ... I don't want to blow my entire XMAS bonus! :)

Go for it Dan, I will be buying that exact header for the Falcon. Gonna run a straight pipe all the way to the back with a cherry bomb.

Any thing that frees up HP is a good Upgrade IMO. If you do it take plenty of pics and maybe do a tech article on it. That would be cool for future wanna be header installers on the Super Six enigine.(y)

    Isn't this an oxymoron???

My white 1974 had a turbo muffler on it when I bought it. With the factory exhaust manifold......it sounded like a lawnmower and was very obnoxious driving it 300 to 400 miles to Norwalk, Ohio and Somerset Kentucky.

    I vote: NO

I'd go with a "Blue-Streak Bullet" muffler...they are definetly quieter than the "Big Daddies"....paint a strip down the length of the exhaust pipe, run the engine for approximately 15 minutes, look for the hot spot, place the muffler there.....You now have a tuned exhaust system:dance:

I had a muffler on one of my six cyl mavs. It was in the stock location. It was called a turbo pack. It looked like a glasspack but had insides like a turbo muffler and a tolerable sound .
